Hello, Families!
As always, it was a wonderful week in second grade!
During the Accelerated Math 2.0 of our day this past week, students have been taking the STAR math test with me in a small-group format. I look forward to sharing these results with you at conferences. It is exciting to see the growth our young students are making!
PICTURE RETAKES are Monday. If your child is going to have a retake, please send the original pictures back to school on Monday. Students will not be able to do a retake without the original pictures.
Next week starts Sipley's FOOD DRIVE!!! All donated items will benefit our local food pantry. Please give what you are able...with the holidays just around the corner, all will be greatly appreciated by the families who have so little. I plan on going to Costco and buying canned vegetables to donate. As an added bonus, each can counts as a point toward our class total, so let's make 2 LaCrosse the FOOD DRIVE WINNER!!! :)
***If you did not schedule a conference time, please do so ASAP as spots are quickly filling! You may also send me a note or e-mail with your time preferences (Monday, Nov. 23 from 3-8 or Tuesday, Nov. 24 from 11-4). THANK YOU!
As always (and I can't overstate this enough), PLEASE let me know if you have any questions about your child's progress, or about anything school related in general. My hope is you'll ask if there is anything you're wondering.
Please ask your child:
Math:
- Tell me about your Math STAR test!
- You learned about comparing numbers using <, =, > as well as using the words "less than, greater than, and equal to." We have compared using base 10 blocks as well as two and three-digit numbers. Compare 23 and 32. Compare 304 and 310. Compare 728 and 728.
Reading:
- What books are you currently reading?
- Tell me about your reader's notebook. When do you use it?
- What are you reading for your non-fiction, informational writing?
- Tell me about World Book Online.
Writing:
- What informational writing piece did you turn in to Mrs. LaCrosse?
- Tell me about how your 5th grade writing buddy helped you this week.
- You learned about the importance of using punctuation. Tell me about Punctuation Takes a Vacation. Why is end punctuation so important?
- Did you start a second informational writing piece? What is your topic?
Science:
- Why is nutrition important?
- Give me an example of a nutritious breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack.
- What did you learn about sugar?
- Tell me what you learned about the amount of sugar in soda. Why is water a better choice?
Other:
- What was the best part of your week?
- Is there anything you would like to be different next week? What can you do to make that happen?
Thank you for sharing your wonderful children with me. Have a lovely weekend!
