Bond 2022 Update -- February 2023
Follow our progress!
Belton ISD is excited to share our progress as we work to make all 2022 Bond projects a reality and deliver on the promises made to our community.
These projects would not be possible without the support of our community, and we appreciate your partnership!
Hubbard Branch Elementary groundbreaking scheduled for March 23
The Belton ISD community is invited to attend a groundbreaking event at Hubbard Branch Elementary, scheduled for 9 a.m. on Thursday, March 23.
Construction is set to begin in early March 2023, following official Board of Trustee action on February 20 to approve the Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) of $37,704,479. The Board previously approved the selection of American Constructors as the Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) for the project, and the project went out for public bidding in January of 2023.
Hubbard Branch elementary is located in south Belton, and will be built to accommodate 800 students. The school was designed by Huckabee Architects in accordance with Belton ISD’s 2022 Educational Specifications, which include design considerations that will enhance the BISD students’ learning experience.
The March 23 groundbreaking will be held at Hubbard Branch Elementary, located at 1651 O.T. Tyler Drive, Belton, 76513.
James L. Burrell Elementary Opening Date Set for January 2024
Construction of James L. Burrell Elementary hit a major milestone in January as crews erected the first vertical elements of the building. “Going vertical” is an industry term referring to the start of structural framing. The most recent construction progress has included more steel erection, wall construction and ongoing foundation work.
James L. Burrell Elementary is scheduled for a mid-year opening and is anticipated to open in January 2024. Belton ISD appreciates the support and partnerships with Cloud Construction and Huckabee Architects for working hard to meet an accelerated timeline.
After attendance boundaries are adopted in March, BISD will work to support students assigned to the new campus while also providing immediate relief to Tarver Elementary.
Elementary Attendance Boundary Planning
Attendance Boundary Recommendations are scheduled to go to the Board of Trustees at their March 27 meeting. The district’s ultimate goal through this process is to provide exceptional learning experiences where each and every student can thrive, while also managing growth, maximizing the use of our facilities, and reducing our use of long-term portables.
Belton ISD strives to partner with parents and values the input of stakeholders. Please watch your email for more information about how you can participate and give feedback on attendance boundary scenarios. BISD will provide information about the implementation of the new attendance boundaries in late March, once the new attendance boundaries have been adopted.
Playground Equipment
Belton ISD is moving forward with the playground accessibility and safety improvements included in the 2022 Bond. This will include installation of fall protection for playground equipment at elementary playgrounds. The administration will ask the Board to approve contracts for these improvements in March, with plans for installation and completion during the summer of 2023.
