The Liverpool Letter
Liverpool Public School - April 2021
Diary Dates
Term 1
Principal's Message
It is great to see our students focused on their learning each day and enjoying school. It is one of the highlights of my role to be out and about with students, listening to them talk about what they enjoy or hearing how proud they are when they share their achievements with me.
Today, we were visited by ABC Sydney to share some of the great things we do at Liverpool Public School. Our Pen Pals Program, which is in partnership with the Western Sydney Migrant Resource Centre, was featured by the ABC. Students were interviewed about their participation and shared with the journalists some of their letters. I am proud of the great work our staff and students do each and every day! Please keep an eye out on our Facebook page or Skoolbag app as we will share the feature with our community once it is published.
This term, we continued developing our Strategic Improvement Plan. It has now been finalised and is available on the school planning and reporting section of our website. We have identified three areas of focus relating to student growth and attainment, assessment and student wellbeing. I would like to thank staff, students and our community for their contributions to the plan. Our Annual Report is being finalised and will also be available on the school planning and reporting section our website early next term.
Sadly we farewell two staff members this week. Mr Plumridge has been promoted to the position of Lead Specialist as part of the Early Action for Success initiative and begins that position next term, supporting Instructional Leaders across the Liverpool network of schools. We also farewell Miss Ross who has gained a position at Engadine West Public School. Congratulations to you both and all the best with your new endeavours. We all thank you for your wonderful contributions to Liverpool Public School.
I also congratulate Mrs Storey, who will be an Instructional Leader for the remainder of the year at another local school. This is a key role in many schools, working closely with teachers to ensure we meet the literacy and numeracy learning needs of students.
Our playground upgrade is progressing through the development application process and we hope to have an outcome next month. Once approved by Liverpool City Council, the project will go to tender. Construction will commence once the tender process is completed. We don’t have an estimated timeframe yet but will keep everyone updated each newsletter.
Term 1 certainly flew by fast! Have a wonderful Easter and enjoy the holiday break. I look forward to welcoming everyone back on Tuesday 20 April for the first day of Term 2.
Yours Sincerely
Mr Tapuska
Have you seen these notes and when are they due?
From the Deputy Principals - Mrs Alfaro and Mrs Pritchard
Dear Parents and Carers,
It is hard to believe that we are already at the end of Term 1 2021. This term has flown by very quickly. We have been noticing some very positive things happening around the school. Students have been displaying the seven habits linked to The Leader In Me which can be seen when students are lining up in the morning and moving off to class for a successful start to the day.

Early Stage 1 News - Ms Vejzovic
It has been a rewarding start to kindergarten. Students have settled in to routines and structures of school and are developing their knowledge and skills across all key learning areas. They are learning the importance of school and classroom expectations and how to work with others. Students continue to engage in hands on learning experiences in mathematics and are investigating numbers daily.
Ask your child something they enjoyed learning in Term 1. This is a good way to engage with your child and to get an insight into what they enjoyed learning in kindergarten.
I hope all the families and students of kindergarten have a wonderful holiday and I look forwarding to seeing everyone in Term 2 for another productive term.
Ms Vejzovic
Rel Assistant Principal – Early Stage 1
From the classroom - KB and Ms Bosnjak
In KB we are learning lots about different art techniques.
We have discovered how to use sponges when painting and enjoyed experimenting with these to recreate Frida Khalo’s famous artwork. Look at us learn!
Stage 1 News - Ms Dunlop & Mrs Young
Welcome to Term 2 parents!
We hope you and your child had a lovely break. Just a few reminders. Homework and the Liverpool Public School Home Reading program will continue this term. Your child would have a plastic document wallet with their homework, reading log and home reader. Please read the information about our Home Reading program. It’s important you read with your child every night.
We are seeing lots of students with Liverpool red hats, can you ensure your child brings their hat with their name on it everyday.
Finally your child would have received a note for our excursion to either Featherdale Wildlife Park for Year 1 students or Sydney Zoo for Year 2 students. This is to help build your child’s background knowledge around living things.
We are looking forward to an exciting term.
Ms Dunlop & Mrs Young
Relieving Assistant Principal's - Stage 1
From the classroom - 1/2V and Ms Vo
We are striving to be safe respectful learners with a kind heart.
In writing, we have been learning to write quality orientations to a story. We have been working on including when, who and where to introduce our stories.
We interactively wrote one together about a character named Silly Sam.
In Science, we have been studying Living and Non-Living things. We can identify and label the different parts of a plant. We also planted our own seeds to see what would happen when the seeds got water and sunlight.
COVID-19 - Good Hygiene
The best way to protect yourself from COVID-19 is the same way you would protect yourself from catching flu or other respiratory illnesses. Remember there are simple steps to help stop the spread and good hygiene is in your hands. We have some pictures below to help stay safe during this time.
Stage 2 News - Mrs Drakakis
Stage 2 have had an amazing term settling into their news classes and beginning some exciting class work. We have been studying the Australian artist Ken Done and have reproduced some fantastic artworks. During writing, we have been experimenting with using language to engage our readers. We have used amazing adjectives to describe our characters.
Stage 2 students have been learning how to apply Habit 1 and 2 in the classroom and on the playground. We have been working together and trying to be responsible life long learners.
Remember school returns on Tuesday 20 April 2021.
We look forward to Mrs McDonald returning next term to her class.
Mrs Drakakis
Rel Assistant Principal - Stage 2
From the classroom - 3D and Ms Stefanski
3D have been studying and appreciating the artworks of Andy Warhol in Visual Arts. We have learnt that Andy Warhol was famous for pop art. He lived and worked in New York from the 1950s - 1980s. Warhol's art consisted of hand drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, silk screening, sculpture, film and music.
At art school, Andy experimented with a simple printmaking technique using ink and paper. We used this technique to create a drawing of our own Andy Warhol cat ‘Sam’ using sketching techniques, water colour paints and permanent markers.

From the classroom - 5T and Mr Tupkovic
5T have been exploring the scientific concept of gravity. Students developed their understanding of air resistance by designing and creating their own parachutes. As show below, students used paper materials and string to create their parachutes and drop them from the top level.
By observing this experiment, students have gained an understanding of how air resistance slows down objects before they hit the ground.
Student Representative Council - SRC News
On Tuesday the 23 March SRC class members and school leaders attended the annual GRIP conference at the Kens Roswell Centre in Sydney Olympic Park. Even though the rain was heavy the student’s spirits were high as we travelled by train, the students were all very respectful during out commute as well as during the event itself.
During the event students were taught key skills about what it means to be a leader, when to step up and when to encourage others to keep pushing forward. SRC members used provided booklets to write down their own ideas and were encouraged to share their ideas with other schools, bring their ideas down to the stage and to enjoy themselves in some leadership building exercises.
Overall the conference was a huge success and current SRC members as well as the school leaders expressed that they have returned to school with a better understanding of what it means to be a leader, more ideas on how to improve the school and are excited to move into Term 2 to get working!
We look forward to attending the GRIP conference again in future years.

Schools in Australia and around the world have used the Tell Them From Me survey to help them improve.
For more information please read the Tell Them From Me student survey note, which has been sent home.
Stage 1 with 3D Modelling and 3D Printing
Year 1 and Year 2 students have been busy helping create a class character using a 3D modelling application called Tinkercad. The students used adjectives and noun groups to explain their character’s unique features. When the 3D characters were completed the
students then used our school’s 3D printers to print a plastic model for them to look at and hold.
They were given the opportunity to compare their class character with the other classes. They highlighted what was similar and what was different using adjectives and noun groups. Visit the library to see all the uniquely designed 3D class characters.

30km/h Safe Speed Zone in Liverpool
NOTICE TO SCHOOLS
30km/h safe speed zone in Liverpool to improve pedestrian safety
Transport for NSW |
Transport for NSW has delivered safer speed zones in Liverpool as part of our response to COVID-19, giving you more options to walk, cycle and move around the city in a safer environment.
As part of the initiative, school zones in Liverpool have been reduced from 40km/h to 30km/h affecting the following school zones:
- Liverpool Public School
- Liverpool Girls High School
- Liverpool Boys High School
- All Saints Catholic Primary School, Liverpool
- All Saints Catholic College, Liverpool.
Special 30km/h orange school zone signs and road markings have been installed to emphasize the reduced school zone speed limit.
Why is this being done?
Safety will be improved for vulnerable road users including pedestrians and cyclists when accessing key locations such as schools and shops.
Local residents will have added benefits with improved liveable local streets that are safer.
Motorists are reminded to drive to the sign-posted speed limit at all times for the safety of all road users.
