OCPL Weekly Update
October 15, 2015
Have you had a chance to use our NEW BETA VERSIONS of LS2 Staff and PAC.
OCPL is a beta tester! This much anticipated version of LS2 Staff/PAC has not been widely released yet. As a beta tester, it is our responsibility to give feedback. This gives TLC a chance to iron out the problems before they release it to everyone. Oh the awesome power.
Play around with it. Give me your feedback at X305 or email@example.com or in person. I’d like to know what you like, what you don’t like, what works, what does not work, and what you’d like to see. We have been using it for one shift and I have given TLC a lot of feedback already!
I am very happy with the progress TLC has made in this release. They are slowly closing the gap in functionality between client Circ and LS2 Staff. The product owner is taking a hard look at functionality. He is trying to make it as efficient to use as possible. He and I (and many other TLC users) have had many conversations on this topic. He listens! More enhancements to come.
Lately our new release DVD covers and e-resource covers are appearing as the generic gray-background-with-words cover in the PAC. I am reporting each instance. TLC is working with the content provider to fix it, and eventually we get a nice cover. Not sure what the problem is, but you may see some boring covers.
Have a great weekend.
Teens & Main Circ
Sorry I missed last week’s deadline, but I’m sure you were not too sad to have one less thing to read. We had a great after hours event for Teens last Saturday night—the Haunted Library, although I was bad and did not take a single picture to show you all. A good time was had by all (even me in the midst of not feeling so great). I was super-impressed that the local police came by to check on us since the lights were on late at Main. Thanks to Kate and Olivia for their stellar clean-up of the very trashed art room (yikes). And thanks to Trisha for building our fire—we roasted hotdogs and made s’mores—it was perfect weather for it. Thanks to Christina for making a run to the store, too.
I will be here for a couple of days of Fall Break, but then I am off on a trip with my college friends to California wine country on Wednesday morning and won’t be back until the 27th. I will have my phone, of course, if you need to email me or send a text. Don’t know what I will be able to do to help you as I’m hiking through Sonoma and drinking vino, but I will try.
Got lots of great ideas at the Summer Reading Conference this week, although my brain is a little overloaded with them. Look forward to brainstorming with everyone about how to make our Library and its programs and services the best they can be.
Nothing next week for Teens since it’s Fall Break. Thanks to all who are subbing for the many of us on vacation over Fall Break and thanks to Sandra for working so hard to find subs.
Your Zenful IT Tech
The Duncan the Dragon storytime went very well! We had a good turnout and everyone seemed to have a great time. Thanks to Gracelyn Jack for taking pictures and helping with the craft, Shannon for helping with the set-up and for taking pictures, Kendra for bringing her delicious punch and letting us borrow her tablecloth, Karen to loaning us her drink dispenser, Lisa for ordering our dragon cupcakes, and, last but not least, Rachel for taking care of things downstairs while the event was going on upstairs. Check out the pictures!
Speaking of pictures, we decorated the inside of the front door for Halloween. Looks good, huh?
As far as upcoming events, we’re having a game night on October 29 from 4:00 to 6:00, and the Second Chances Wildlife Center is doing a presentation on November 7 at 11:00.
Outreach & Adult Programming
Welcome to Melissa who started her evening hours in the Digital Lab this week. She’s currently working on the new Library podcast, which will eventually be going out each week. The episodes will feature several quick audiobook reviews from staff members, and a discussion of upcoming library events and services. So, if you are at Main (regular hours, subbing, or even a visit) and want to record a quick book talk, please let me know! These are only audio, and we want the podcast to feature as many different staff members as possible. It’s a very painless procedure.
This Saturday is Game Day! 1-5pm for drop-in gaming fun. Branches will be getting posters & information on the upcoming International Games Day in the run on Friday. Cheri has been hard at work making our life-sized Candyland a reality for that event. It’s going to be a lot of fun.
Wednesday, Nov. 21st is Open Craft Day at Main- crafters can bring their projects and drop in from 10-noon to work with other crafty individuals.
Thursday, Nov. 22nd, 6pm: Google Services Computer Class. Registration online.
Since fall break means fewer programs, I will be using next week as a “get to know your library” time on social media. I’ll be doing special posts about the branches, about tech services, the board, and more. Check it out!
