School Choice Lottery Window
Greenville County Schools’ Change in Assignment (CIA) School Choice Lottery Window will be available from Monday, November 16 through Wednesday, December 2, 2020 where parents can submit a choice form for up to three schools for their child at their number one choice school.
Choice forms are available at every school (except magnet schools) and must be completed and submitted at the number one choice school. Order of receipt of CIA form at schools during the CIA Lottery Window does not affect lottery ranking or assignment.
All parents/guardians interested in applying for a possible CIA school choice slot at a school other than their assigned school based on their resident address should apply during the Change in Assignment Choice Lottery Window. Parents of kindergarten students should apply during the CIA Lottery Window (do not wait until kindergarten registration).
A lottery will be conducted and results will be posted on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 on the GCS website providing the order by grade for each school. Names will not be listed. Parents will access results by using their CIA choice form number and it is suggested parents take a picture of the form to avoid misplacement of the CIA number. This listing will be the results of the lottery only. Space by grade level will later determine the choice assignments. Students selecting a school as a higher choice have priority over students selecting the school as a lower priority.
This process does not include GCS’s magnet schools. Please directly contact the magnet school of interest.
Register for 2021-2022 Kindergarten & 1st Grade
If your child is starting kindergarten or first grade next year, we need your help! It’s extremely important that you enroll your child between December 1-4 to ensure we have enough teachers for every classroom on the first day of school.
Children who will be five years old on or before September 1 of the current year must enroll in public or private kindergarten unless the parent or legal guardian signs a waiver (Kindergarten Non-Attendance Form). Any child who will be six years old on or before September 1 of the current year must enroll in first grade. Students who are currently enrolled in a GCS 4K or 5K program do not need to register.
Parents should set up a Backpack account, then click on “Enroll A Student” and follow the instructions.
If you do not have internet access, the Student Enrollment Form and Home Language Survey form are available at each school. Be sure to bring all of the required documents when you visit the school.
The following documents are required for online or face-to-face registration:
- Photo ID from any state or country
- Two current “proof of residency” documents (all must contain property address). These can be a combination of:
- Current bills – i.e. electric, gas, water, cable
- Current mortgage statement or current signed lease agreement with landlord’s name and phone number
- Child’s Birth Certificate
- Signed Certificate of Immunization, Conditional Certificate of Immunization, or Religious Exemption Certificate (Religious Exemption Certificate provided by Health Department)
