What Makes a Proficient Reader?
During reading, your child is working with the teacher in small flexible groups who have similar reading processes. The teacher selects and introduces new books and supports children reading the whole text to themselves, making teaching points before, during and after reading. Your child is working with books that are “just right.” You can help your child by:
· Saying to your child, “tell me more” when they are retelling the story.
· Listening to your child read.
· Wondering with your child, “What will happen next?”
· Signing your child’s book bag or assignment notebooks nightly.
As we give our children more responsibility, we are also expecting them to relay to you the assignments they have for the evening. Please read nightly with your child in order to enable them to become the most confident reader they can! It is also a great opportunity for you to celebrate their growth! Please see article below!
Together we can achieve more! Thank you for your support!
Red Ribbon Week
We will WEAR RED on Monday, October 23rd!
Lilly is a student in our 4K class who is undergoing open heart surgery on Wednesday, October 25th. She was born with congenital heart disease and at just 13 days old, she underwent her first open heart surgery. She had a hole in her heart and received a patch. Currently, a valve in Lilly’s heart is closing and her heart is working too hard. On Wednesday, October 25th, we will be having a “Lilly Day.” Please come to school wearing her favorite color, purple, to show support! We need to be strong and show our support for our fighter Lilly!
Picture Retake Day
Just a reminder that Friday, October 27th will be picture retake day. If your child was absent on picture day, a photo will be taken. Also if you are interested in ordering photos, please see Chris in the office.
