Stony Hill School Newsletter
September, 2021
We're Off to a Great Start!
I am so happy to report that we have had a fantastic school opening at Stony Hill School! The cheerful greetings, laughter, and displays of friendship remind us all how much we have missed having a school full of precious children who want to learn, connect, and have fun. Our staff has been diligently working to lay the foundation of structure, expectations and routines - all things that our children were craving after many months of various school experiences. We have been checking in on students' physical and social-emotional well being every day. These first weeks are all about building a classroom community and helping students identify their hopes and dreams for this year. Together, with student input, we will establish the rules that must be in place in order for all students to reach their own goals. While we can't have whole-school assemblies yet, we have creative plans for recording class presentations of our character traits and sharing those recordings so that all classes can view and participate in the learning activities. In my next newsletter, I will give more details on the character traits we teach at Stony Hill School so that you can bridge a home-school connection by reinforcing those traits with your child. Thank you, as always, for your partnership.
Enjoy this video that gives some insight into how happy we are to welcome our students back.
Virtual Open House
Our Fall Open House will be held on 9/22/21. This is an opportunity for parents/guardians to hear about the curriculum and other important classroom expectations. On Tuesday, a Google Open House Slideshow will be sent to families through the Plus Portal that will include each Teacher's Zoom link and staff-created videos and slides. Here is the Zoom schedule:
5:30 Welcome Presentation by Mrs. Dangleis
5:45 Presentation by Grade 2 Teachers
6:00 Presentation by Grade 3 Teachers
6:15 Presentation by Related Arts Team
6:30 Presentation by Student Services TeamPlease Keep Toys At Home
We ask that you help your child remember that toys need to stay at home. We've had some students arguing over things like Pop Its, Poke Mon cards, stuffed animals, and the items that hang from backpacks. There are times when a teacher may be doing a special project that calls for the child to bring something to school. Those are exceptions to the rule. Thank you so much for your support on this.
Safety Procedures
We have had one Fire Drill already and will have another one this week. As of now, we are not planning a Lock-down Drill. But teachers are modeling what to do in the event of a Lock-down. At times, I need to call a Shelter In Place. This means children and staff stay in the classroom and avoid using the halls. This call is lifted within a matter of minutes and there is little to no disruption to learning.
Stony Hill PTO Updates
Our first PTO Meeting is scheduled for October 6th from 7:00-8:00 P.M. on Zoom. If you are interested in attending, please let the PTO President, Heidi Maserati, know and she will send you the Zoom link. You will be receiving a Welcome Letter, Spirit Wear order form, and Volunteer Sign Up in your child's Travel Folder this week. Document files are posted below as well.
