We are excited to kick off a new school year. Thank you for enrolling in the Parents as Teachers program in Shawnee Mission. We value the opportunity to serve your family and to support you in being the best first teacher to your child(ren). We are fortunate to have a team of experienced parent educators to guide, coach, and support your family. One of our biggest challenges is getting the word out to other families, particularly our first-time parents. If you know of a family member, friend, someone with whom you work, or a neighbor with children birth to three, we hope that you will refer them to our program for more information and to enroll. We are finalizing our calendar of events and the parent educators will be sharing those soon. We are unique and so lucky to have a PTA solely focused on Parents as Teachers. We partner with the PTA on many events. There are many great activities planned for the year. The first of which is the Walk and Read, which kicks off on August 27. If you have not had a chance to join the PAT PTA, I highly recommend you look into it.

Our play center is back open on Fridays (see schedule for exact dates). More information on how to sign up is below. Also, we are happy to welcome back storyteller Mr. Bradley this year. He will collaborate on two of the story times this year with our Spanish-speaking parent educator for a bilingual story time. These have been very popular, so we look forward to seeing your families this year.

Shawnee Mission Parents as Teachers playgroups in the play center offer children an opportunity to build social skills and enjoy play time with their parents, model appropriate play and interact with other parents. The Parent Educators put forth a plan to bring families together inside at our Early Childhood Education Center play center.

As you arrive at the Early Childhood Education Center, please enter through Door 1. We will scan can your driver's license and give you a visitor badge. If technology works like it should, we will only need to scan your driver's license once.

The Play Center will be held on Fridays from 9 am to 11 am and/or Saturdays from 9:30 - 11:30 am. We are asking families to limit 1 hour of play time and please pick up before you leave.

• The Shawnee Mission PAT PTA is proud to be the first PTA program in the country that has it's own PTA.
• Our PTA Board Members are parent volunteers who are currently enrolled in PAT or have been in the PAT program.
• The Shawnee Mission PAT PTA organizes many of our "fun" activities and events that are offered to your family through the year.
• The PAT PTA covers the cost of these events through annual dues or fees to attend the events.
• Joining our PAT PTA allows your family to participate in all the PTA events at no cost. The PTA offers events for children between the ages of birth to 5 years of age!
