Weekly Updates from Madison High School - January 14, 2019
CORE Academy
Saturday Core Academy on January 25, 8 am, Rm. B22 is an opportunity for students to get help with completing assignments, receive additional instruction in core academic content, or work with a teacher to understand concepts with which they may be struggling. The semester ends on January 24; final grades will appear on the transcript. D and F grades will need to be made up in summer school. Students who have less than a 2.0 GPA on their semester report card will be on the LOP (Loss of Privileges) list and should be attend Saturday Core Academy to complete work or get assistance in English and/or math. All students are welcome to participate; sign up in advance. Click on the graphic for information to help students prepare for their CORE Academy session.
Black Colleges Expo
The Black Colleges Expo will be held at the Martin Luther King Center adjacent to the Bayview Baptist Church in Linda Vista on Wednesday, January 29, noon to 6 pm. Students will receive information about the various programs offered at Historically Black Colleges and Universities, information for athletes, financial aid available and much more. Admission to the Black College Expo is free. There will be a field trip to the Expo leaving Madison High School at 11:45 am. Students who are interested in attending should see Ms. Loyce in room 900 for a permission slip.
US San Diego Extension Opportunities
There are unique summer opportunities available for high school students at UC San Diego Extension. Students can participate in a 3-week summer Academic Connections program, a Global Environmental Leadership and Sustainability program or the Research Scholars Program. Generally, these experiences are tuition based programs that are competitive in nature and fill up in advance of the summer months. Each program has a specific application deadline and may require a GPA verification. These experience are beneficial for a college resume and help provide familiarity with the college environment.
Family Notices for the Week:
Students interested in employment should check the SDUSD job board; there are a variety of seasonal and part-time jobs.
Saturday Core Academy: Saturday, January 25, 8:00 AM, Rm. B22; students should bring homework to complete, study materials or reading that needs to be accomplished. Enter through the back of the school off of Doliva (main campus is closed and in use by the Minato Japanese School). See article above for more detail.
