Cameron Drama Company Update
Fall 2019 -- Auditions are this week!
Welcome to Frozen Jr!
The production staff is already working on this show and it is going to be EPIC! We have rented puppets, hired professional costume designer and projection designer, the Stagecraft class started building our set, the pit had their first rehearsal last week and much, much more! We hope you are all as excited as we are to get started on this amazing Frozen Journey!
What to expect this week...
The Audition Workshops will include:
- Introductions to the Staff and Show
- Vocal Warm-ups and learning the two audition songs
- Physical Warm-Ups and learning the two audition dances
- Getting a script, or section of the script, to prepare audition scenes.
- Volunteering to sing, dance and read to get feedback on what we are looking for in each audition.
- Singing in small groups if you would like to be in an ensemble and a role without solo singing.
- Singing alone if you would like to play a role with solo singing
- Dancing in small groups
- Reading scenes in small groups.
- All Auditions are done in the theater with the directors and the students who are auditioning. Parents and other students are not invited to auditions or rehearsals.
The Cast List will not be available until Saturday, or Sunday. Please check your email for information about the Cast List. The first rehearsal will be Tuesday, October 1.
If you would like to be on the CREW!
If you have signed up to be on the Crew your first Tech Rehearsal is Thursday, October 3 from 2:30-4:45. You will be working directly with Kyle, our Technical Director.
Unfortunately, there are a very limited number of crew positions available (13). Everyone who signs up will be able to work on an element of the show on Tech Thursdays (Building props, painting, organizing, etc). Once we get to the end of November only crew members with performance specific responsibilities (light board operator, projection operator, costumes, etc) will be allowed to attend rehearsals & performances.
Thanks to the students who have decided to join us in the cast. If you would like to be guaranteed to be a part of Frozen Jr. and you signed up for crew, you might want to reconsider auditioning and being in the cast...there is plenty of space in the cast for everyone! Just join us at the Audition Workshops and Auditions!
If you have any questions about this please see Mrs. Shea in the Drama Room.
Directing Team!
We have a HUGE Directing Team this year! Frozen Jr. is going to be an elaborate production and we need lots of adults to help pull it all together!

Commitment to FROZEN Jr.
Once we cast the show the expectation is that you will be a part of the show until the end. We will be having costumes made just for you and the projections will be designed around the specific cast members on the stage with precision. There will not be any wiggle room for change once a costume is made or a projection is designed. Please take this commitment seriously.
Each member of the cast will be assigned one larger role or several smaller roles. If you would like to join another after school club, please consider joining the club for Session 2 (January-March) or Session 3 (April-June). This is the only time for you to be a part of Frozen Jr. You can participate in the other clubs later in the school year.
The crew rehearsals are less frequent in October and November and become mandatory in December.
All cast and crew are expected to keep up with their school work. School comes first! If you require extra help please see your teachers from 2:30-2:55 and then come to rehearsal.
Late Bus
Transportation has your Student ID information and addresses. This is the information they need to arrange the Late Bus route.
On Monday, we will make sure that everyone who needs a Late Bus ride home is on the correct bus and knows their stop. The stops are not the same as their regular bus routes. This will take some extra patience, but the first day is the hardest. After that everyone knows which bus to take and where they get off.
Costumes & Shoes!
Please do not purchase shoes until after the show has been cast as some of the roles will have different shoe requirements for the show. For example; Elsa, Snow Dancers, some of the men, Olaf, and a few others.
The really important stuff...SNACKS!
Sharing snacks has become a very special part of our rehearsals at Cameron. We are able to get to know each other, take a break and reset before rehearsals begin. Eating together as a group builds community.
Snacks can be sent into school with your child in the morning, they can bring snacks to the Drama Room or snacks can be dropped off at the office during the day. Thanks to the families who have already signed up! There are already snacks that have been dropped off! I am grateful for all of your support!
Snacks do not need to be anything specific. Popular snacks are Cheez-Its, pretzels, chips, clementines and cookies. However, having different snacks on different days is nice too.
All cast and crew will bring their own water to rehearsal everyday. If your child has an allergy or food restrictions please provide your own snack for your child.
Please review the Sign-Up Genius and sign up for a slot or two! If everyone signs up for two dates we should have plenty of snacks. Thanks so much!
Sensory Friendly Performance
Cameron Drama Company is proud to present a sensory-friendly performance of Disney's Frozen, Jr. at 5 pm on Thursday, December 12, for families with children and adults on the autism spectrum and other developmental disabilities. The musical is performed in a friendly, supportive environment with slight adjustments to the production, including the reduction of any jarring sounds or lights focused into the audience area. The cafeteria will be set up with a small, quiet and play area, if family members need to leave their seats during the performance.
For this special performance, no-cost, limited seating is available to individuals and families with developmental disabilities. To get your free tickets to this show, please reserve tickets here. For additional information regarding our Sensory-Friendly Performance, please contact Teri Shea at tshea@framingham.k12.ma.us.
There will be more details to follow but here are a few things to know...
- We will have a Autism and Sensory training for the cast and crew
- There will be slight modifications to the performance to make it more accessible and comfortable for the audience.
- We will have the puppets available in the lobby before the show begins
- We will have a short introduction from the stage
- ...and much more.
We are just beginning this exciting new program in Framingham. I have produced Sensory Friendly performances with a community theater and at Fuller for students within Framingham Public Schools during the school day, however this is our first attempt at a Community based performance. I am working closely with Rochelle Santos, the Media & Communications Manager with the Framingham Public Schools to find community partners to help us with the outreach and a few of the details.
This should be very exciting and a great way to share our theater with an audience who might not have felt comfortable to attend one of out traditional performances.
