Odds and Ends
Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful restful break with your family! It was wonderful having the time for extra snuggles with my girls!
With the New Year comes new expectations - the bar is rising! This week, the kids and I will be talking about what that means and even what it looks like. Today we talked it is expected that student are using their work time wisely. If they are not using their time wisely the student(s) will be asked to stay in to finish it and the work could very possibly come home as extra work. If that is the case I will be sure to put on a note on the work.
Happy Camper of the Week - starting next week we will be starting our Happy Camper of the Week. Your kiddo should have brought home the poster yesterday. Kids just need to complete the poster by coloring it and adding some words and hand drawn pictures. Check their Tuesday folder for a letter with the specifics.
Curriculum Update
We also started back with our weekly math facts tests. Please encourage kids to continue to practice those. DonĀ“t forget kids an use xtramath to work on math facts - another sheet came home today just in case you needed one.
READING - We are starting unit 3 in journeys this week with a humorous fiction story called Click, Clack Moo. It is a humurous fiction story about cows who are cold and demand electric blankets! Its super cute. Kids are working on drawing conclusions and predicting.
Spelling/Handwriting - This week as kids are practicing their spelling please emphasize writing and using the lines. On the spelling test kids will be marked off if they capitalize a word that should not be or if they reverse letters (like b & d).
Silent Reading - Kids are silently reading daily during class. Be sure to encourage reading at home. Listening to an audio book is just as good as reading the book. Listening to you read or an audio version the kid are hearing great fluency. When reading with kids be sure to ask a few questions along the way. ex/ Why did the character do that? Who is your favorite character?, etc.
WRITING - We are working on writing neatly on the lines. As well as working on capitals and punctuation. When your kiddo is working on their assignments at home please emphasize neatness!
LEXIA - Please continue to encourage students to work on meeting their Leixa goal.
TECH - This week in tech we will be working on our typing skills.
PE - We continue to have PE on Wednesdays and Fridays. Please be sure that your child has appropriate shoes for running and jumping.
