The Skeletal System
The Skeletal System is made up of 206 bones that are connected by joints. The main function of the Skeletal System is to give the shape and support to the body
The Two Parts of The Skeletal System
There are two main parts of the Skeletal System, the Axial and Appendicular. The Axial Is 880 bones and includes the spine, skull, ribcage, and the vertebrates . The Appendicular are mostly the arm and hands. It is also the legs and feet and includes 126 bones.
Functions
Some functions of the Skeletal System are to:
- protect the vital organs
- provide a system for levers
- enable body to move,
- store calcium and release it to the blood
- contain smaller amounts of the elements magnesium, potassium, ans sodium
Diseases
Rickets-
cause: stress causes bones to bend easier
symptoms: sweating, weakness, pain or tenderness in bones, and misshapen bones
treatments: supply with plenty of vitamin D
