MESSAGE FROM COACH C
We are off to a great start in PE! Students are working really hard and it has been great to see everyone. Just another friendly reminder: Parents, please remind your student to wear their tennis shoes on PE day. Tennis shoes are vital in regards to safety in PE.
Running club begins Monday, September 9th, and will meet until 3:45. It is very important that your student is picked up on time. Please help by being in the front carline by 3:45. The car line goes extremely quick.
Additional reminders: Until Christmas, running club only meets on the first Monday of the month. After Christmas, running club will meet every Monday until the Color Run (May 16th).
The art classes are off to a great start as we have enjoyed making introductions to our classroom procedures, The Tigerville Way of doing things and of course our special “art room greeting”! We set high expectations for amazing learning experiences in the arts. We have just completed a collaborative work where each and every student at Tigerville has created a personal hot air balloon to display in our front lobby area to support our theme Oh, the places you’ll go!
Next, we will begin new projects for our annual art fundraiser called Original Works. Students will create individual works of art by grade level and the art work is sent to Original Works in New York. The company processes the art and makes a magnet with each child’s art for the parents to review along with other products for purchase with the art work featured on the product. All proceeds from the fundraiser benefit the art department and your support is greatly appreciated!
The StrongARTs Ink Art Club is a small group of artistic students who gather after school on specifically scheduled Thursdays from 2:45 – 4:00. Please note that application does not necessarily mean a student is accepted into the program as many factors limit the number of students accepted into the program. Priority is given to older students. Complete details are given in the application form. Parents should read through the application carefully, paying close attention to dates and times for prompt pick up. Applications for potential membership will be given out next week September 10th – 13th to be filled out at home with parent attention, input and approval. All applications must be returned by September 27th.
I am looking forward to a great year of making beautiful art and presenting artful experiences that will help your child make meaningful connections to the learning process and the world around them!
Creatively yours,
Mrs. Sherry Smith

Counselor's Corner
Our Good Character word this month is Determination. Students have been learning what Determination is, and discovering when they need to use it. Maybe when working on a difficult math problem, or when finishing their homework – Determination means we keep trying and don’t give up!

This month in Guidance our students are learning about things such as being a good friend, solving problems, handling teasing, and exploring our learning styles. Each classroom visits our Guidance classroom twice a month to learn about these topics, and about our Good Character word.
On Tuesday, September 10th parents and friends interested in being a Mentor to one of our students are invited to learn more at our Mentor Meet-n-Greet from 7:30 until 8:15am. Mentors meet with a student once a week during lunchtime to support them, play a board game, or color. Our students love spending time with their Mentors!
On Tuesday, September 24th join us for ‘Coffee with the Counselor’ from 7:30 until 8:15am. Our special guest at this event will be our Mental Health Therapist Kimberly Fleming. We are so lucky to have Ms. Fleming with us this year to help our students with behavior challenges or long-term needs.
Student Council elections are being held this month, with our first meeting scheduled for Tuesday, September 17th. Many of our students will be on the ballots in hopes to be elected to Student Council. Our Student Council hosts projects throughout the year that benefit our school and community.
Music Notes
Chorus auditions were wonderful with over 90 students coming in to sing. Because we have so many 4th and 5th graders this year, we will not be able to open it up to 3rd graders. Rehearsals start on Tuesday, September 10. Pick up is in the back bus loop at 4:00. Hope to see all 63 kids there.
