Week of January 8th
4 Cs: Curiosity, Courage, Consistency, and Confidence
Reflecting back on our journey in the first semester, it all began with a little bit of curiosity. We were all curious about starting the year together as a staff and curious about what this adventure with Solution Tree would bring. Then, I watched as all of you began to display courage on taking on the work, the real work. I'm truly proud of the work everyone has been doing. Consistency is what it took for this to happen. We will continue to be consistent in 2018. Our plate has not changed from first semester. Our plate has the focus of student learning as the main course. We were very consistent and intentional in 2017. We will continue to make even more intentional steps in 2018.
As I talked about in December, confidence is what we are going to work on in 2018. So many of you are doing the right things! It is time to believe in yourself and help kids build confidence as well. Confidence is contagious! I need all of you to start believing. Believe in yourself as an educator that has the opportunity to change the destiny of the students you see every day. Think of the students in your room that struggle. Think of what their life can be, if you teach them to read. Think of what their life can become when we teach them to problem solve through situations. Think of the students in your classroom that excel. Think of how you can push them to extend their knowledge.
One word not listed in the 4 Cs is comfortable. With confidence, this can become a word that we may start wanting to experience. May we never get so confident, that we become comfortable.
I'm excited to see our 2018 journey unfold at Eastside as we become confident educators that will change the world for our students!
To Do List for the Week:
2. Dibels for mid year starts this Monday. We have from January 8th - 19th. Interventionists help each other to get all grades completed and entered in the spreadsheets. Interventionists/Support Staff meet with Dunlap and Wallace at 8:25 Monday morning in team meeting room to discuss dibels process.
3. Make sure you have signed up for your Mid Year PGP review. Let me know if you have questions. In EdReflect, it will show a date and time, but go by the date and time you signed up for on the Google doc.
4. We will not view Global PD this week, but will begin next week.
5. Make sure Ms. Wallace or I have your Planned and Tried idea. You may send the picture of the activity to Ms. Wallace as soon as you complete it.
6. MAP PM will be this Friday for K-2 students during PROWL time. All PROWL groups will run normally that day. If all your students in your group are being PM, come down to the library/lab and help out. We are basing the scores from MAP winter to create a new list, so it may be different than first semester.
7. SIT commenting will be grades 3 - 5 this week. All staff that work with that SIT student for reading interventions needs to comment. This includes interventionists, PROWL teacher, and content teacher. Keep comments focused on the interventions and learning.
8. Confidence, confidence, confidence
Reminders/Updates
- PROWL: Starts back as normal on Monday. Check the PROWL lists. A few kids may have been added or taken away from your group. Make sure you have all your kids. Ms. Wallace and I will be coming around to help everyone get to the correct group as kids will be out of the routine. Go ahead and start your group right at 7:50 as kids trickle in.
- Reading lesson plans need to be on your reading table. Your lesson plans need to be out visible on your desks, so we can easily look at them.
- ACT Aspire Interim II will begin the week of January 15th. Use this week to ensure that you have reviewed those items with your students on the reflection sheet in your Google Team Drive.
- No Spirit Day for January. We will combine January and February into one Spirit Day on February 2nd. Make sure to place this on your newsletters.
- Second nine weeks awards assembly will be January 19th.
- Read as One starts up next week. Ms. Wallace and I will be revealing the new book to students in a creative way.
