Awards Night
FIRST Robotics World Championship
The team of 24 students and 10 mentors has worked for months to build, program and modify a robot that is competitive at this level. The team finished in 3rd place at Kettering, were finalists at Dow High and won awards including the Jack Kamen Imagery award and the highly regarded Engineering Inspiration award. The trip to Championships puts an exclamation point on an already outstanding season.
The World Championship in Detroit is a celebration of STEM programs with Lego League teams (elementary students) FIRST Tech Challenge Teams (middle school) student and FIRST Robotics Competiton teams (high school teams) all in attendance. Competitions, lectures and demonstrations will take place at Cobo Hall and Ford Field in the motor city.
Attendance is free and open to the public. This is the first year that the Championship will be held in Detroit so please consider attending.

Sports Results
4/12/18 - JV Soccer @ Garber - L (0-1) After giving up a goal in the first 30 seconds of the game the girls held strong and dominated control through the rest of the 70 minutes. The defense led by Emma Olinger only gave up 6 shots on goal the entire game. Claire Watson led the offensive attack having 3 scoring opportunities. Rebecca Willour had a strong game at midfield helping to control possession most of the game and Alexis Guerrero finished in goal with 5 saves.

Pays minimum wage: $7.86/hour per State of Michigan Minor Minimum Wage Law (age 16-17); $9.25 for 18 or older
Hours: afternoon (3-5pm); one evening a week (5-8pm) and two Saturdays (9am-1pm). Evening hours and Saturdays are mandatory for all staff.
Requires: computer skills, Microsoft Office and other programs, ability to lift 30 lbs., ability to use a ladder
Job Duties: vacuum library, dust furniture, shelves, books, computers, windows; clean glass on doors and display case, clean drinking fountain, clean tables, chairs, computer stations, circulation counter; trash once a week, assist with keeping bathrooms clean, shelve books, may assist patrons with check outs, finding items, shelf reading, other duties needed as assigned by Director.
McDonalds - Hemlock
They will be having open interviews every Monday between 3:30-5:30pm. If interested, apply online @ McDonalds.com and then show up for the interview.
Class of 2018 - Top Ten
Sophia Vietti
Sophia is the daughter of Jim and Denise Vietti. Sophia is Hemlock’s Valedictorian and has a GPA of 3.988. Sophia is undecided as to where she will attend but wants to major in Environmental Engineering.
Sophia is a National Honor Society Officer and has been in NHS for two years. She also was class treasurer in 2015 and the 2017 recipient of the MSU Alumni Club Outstanding Junior Award.
Sophia has participated in soccer over the past four years and was on the TVC Conference Champions 2016 team.
Courtney Wardlow
Courtney is the daughter of Joe and Michelle Wardlow. Courtney is this year’s Salutatorian and carries a GPA of 3.913. Courtney plans to finish Early Middle College program with Delta college then transfer to SVSU for Occupational Therapy.
Courtney has been a member of the National Honor Society for two years. Courtney has participated in varsity soccer for four years and has been team captain for one year. She also has participated in volleyball for four years.
Annika Wilson
Annika is the daughter of Carl and Laura Wilson. Annika is graduating with Highest honors and a GPA of 3.902. Annika is planning on attending the University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio to major in Social Work and Western Riding and Training.
Annika has been the President of the 4H Club, the Vice President of the FFA and a National Honor Society member.
Maurice Goka
Maurice is the son of Doug & Anna Goka. He is graduating with Highest honors and a GPA of 3.820 GPA. Maurice will be attending Saginaw Valley State University to major in Secondary Education for Mathematics.
Maurice is a National Honor Society officer, he has participated in varsity soccer, and assisted with 7th grade basketball. He has also been on the Hemlock Snowfest team for the past two years.
Brianna Spellerberg
Brianna is the daughter of Steve & Melissa Spellerberg. She is graduating with Highest honors and a GPA of 3.814. Brianna will be attending Delta and then Saginaw Valley State University to major in nursing.
Brianna has been a member of National Honor Society for two years and an officer for one year. She has been a member of Student Council for three years and on high council for one year. Brianna has been in band for four years and a section leader for two years. Brianna has played tennis for four years and was the runner-up at the 2017 regional.
Trenton Boylan
Trenton is the son of Roger Boylan & Lynn Boylan. He is graduating with Highest honors holding a GPA of 3.790. Trenton will finish attending the Hemlock Early Middle College program with Delta College.
Trenton has been a member of the National Honor Society for two years. He has played varsity soccer for four years. In that time, he has earned the captain award, two 1st Team All-Conference awards and a 1st Team All-District award. He has also made the President’s List at Delta College.
Ethan McGregor
Ethan is the son of Scott & Jenny McGregor. He is graduating from with Highest honors holding a GPA of 3.779. Ethan will be attending Michigan State University and major in Pre-Med.
Ethan has been a member of the National Honor Society for two years. He is also the Senior Class Secretary. Ethan has participated in varsity football for two years and varsity wrestling for four years.
Hunter McGregor
Hunter is the son of Scott & Jenny McGregor. He is graduating with Highest honors holding a GPA of 3.767. Hunter will be attending Michigan State University to major in Bio-Chemical Engineering.
Hunter has been a member of National Honor Society for two years. He is also the Vice President of the Senior Class. Hunter has been on the wrestling team for four years and has earned All-Conference Honors for Football.
Natalie Hoffman
Natalie is the daughter of Steve & Joan Hoffman. She is graduating with Highest honors holding a GPA of 3.764. Natalie will be attending Hope College in Holland, Michigan to major in Physical Therapy.
Natalie was nominated for both the D.A.R. Good Citizen Award and the Saginaw Optimist Award by Hemlock Faculty and Staff. She is a Student Council officer and a Senior Representative for the National Honor Society.
Natalie has participated in many sports during her high school career earning captain awards in Track, Cross Country and Basketball. She has also earned the Sportsmanship Award for Basketball.
Madison Stoddard
Madison is the daughter of Tom & Rae Stoddard. She is graduating with Highest honors holding a GPA of 3.761. Madison will finish attending the Hemlock Early Middle College program with Delta College.
Madison has been in National Honor Society for two years and an officer for one year. She has earned the Saginaw Board of Education Robotics Award and made the President’s List for Delta College. Madison has played varsity volleyball for two years. She also spends time volunteering at animal shelters. Madison was also selected by her peers as the 2017-18 Hemlock Homecoming Queen.
