Mrs. Southerton
I am enthused to begin my first year teaching at Divine Providence. I am Tina Southerton and teach 2nd grade. I am a devoted Catholic growing up in Norridge, Illinois now residing in Des Plaines with my husband and two beautiful children. I graduated from Northeastern Illinois University in 2002, I have been teaching elementary education ever since. I also have an ESL endorsement.
I believe in teaching the whole child preparing each student academically, socially and religiously. I am committed to helping my students learn, grow and prosper. I am looking forward to an amazing school year.
A Prayer for Teachers
Grant our teachers an abundance of Your wisdom. Prepare their hearts to welcome and love our loved ones, and may we make sure to show them love and respect in return. Give them grace as they help students who aren’t thriving, courage to say what needs to be said, tools and knowledge on how and when to speak love, and strength when they feel weak. When they feel unseen, remind them that no moment goes unnoticed. They are shaping the future in one million small - yet incredibly important - ways every day. We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the gift of learning they share with our children. Bless them, Lord, and may they see even just a glimpse of how their faithfulness will forever impact generations to come.
Amen.
Mrs. Sautariello
I began my teaching career in 2005, as an 8th grade home room teacher. I also taught Science for grades 6-8. I continued down this path for the next 8 years. When I had my daughter in 2013, I left this wonderful profession to be a stay-at-home mom.
Over the next several years, I worked part-time as a substitute teacher, gym teacher and librarian.
We enrolled our daughter at DP last year in Kindergarten and knew instantly it was one of the best decisions we ever made. When I had the opportunity to jump back into teaching, I knew I wanted it to be at DP.
I am so happy with my new position and have felt so welcomed by all. I look forward to a wonderful, successful school year!
Mrs. Brennan
My name is Kate Brennan and I am the new PK-4 teacher. I was raised in a small suburb North of Milwaukee and I have seven siblings. I earned my BA in Art Education (K-12) at UW Milwaukee. I taught art in the Milwaukee public schools for 3 years before moving to Illinois after marrying my husband. I fell in love with teaching preschool children while working at Dominican University's Early Childhood Center. At this age, children learn best when they having having fun. Preschool teachers get to create entertaining, engaging and creative classrooms that promote learning as well as social, cognitive and emotional development. I earned my master's degree in Elementary Education at Dominican University. I taught at a Montessori school in Oak Park and a preschool in Riverside.
We lived in Oak Park before moving to North Riverside. Our family enjoys visiting the North woods of Wisconsin, art fairs and many of the farmers' markets in the area. We are parishioners at Ascension in Oak Park where our daughter was baptized, received Holy Communion and Reconciliation.
Because his class was so bright!

New! Alternative Learning Days
On Alternative Learning Days students do not report to their school building, but have activities for each class to work on from home. This allows students a chance to dig into material on their own, utilizing technology when applicable, and experience learning outside of the classroom. Teachers are available electronically throughout the day (9AM 3 PM) to help with assignments and activities. This also allows the school the flexibility to continue learning during inclement weather or other unexpected closures. Each grade has a plan in place and will use materials available online and sent home with the student ahead of time to be ready in the event that the school building needs to be closed. Specific plans can be communicated by 9:00 AM via email for any alternative learning days. Work will be due as designated by the teacher. Work not completed and submitted to the teacher by the date due will be considered absent for the school day.
Vision and Hearing Screening, as mandated by the Illinois Department of Public Health, will take place on September 3rd and 4th
Vision screening must be provided annually for preschool children 3 years of age or older in any public or private educational program or licensed child care facility, and for school age children in kindergarten, second and eighth grades; are in special education class; have been referred by a teacher; or are transfer students. Such screening services shall be provided in all public, private and parochial schools. In lieu of the screening services required, a completed and signed report form, indicating that an eye examination by a doctor specializing in diseases of the eye or a licensed optometrist has been administered within the previous 12 months, is acceptable.
