New! Alternative Learning Days

This year, schools across the Archdiocese have been given the opportunity to offer "Alternative Learning Days" as necessary. As stated in our school handbook:

On Alternative Learning Days students do not report to their school building, but have activities for each class to work on from home. This allows students a chance to dig into material on their own, utilizing technology when applicable, and experience learning outside of the classroom. Teachers are available electronically throughout the day (9AM 3 PM) to help with assignments and activities. This also allows the school the flexibility to continue learning during inclement weather or other unexpected closures. Each grade has a plan in place and will use materials available online and sent home with the student ahead of time to be ready in the event that the school building needs to be closed. Specific plans can be communicated by 9:00 AM via email for any alternative learning days. Work will be due as designated by the teacher. Work not completed and submitted to the teacher by the date due will be considered absent for the school day.

Vision and Hearing Screening, as mandated by the Illinois Department of Public Health, will take place on September 3rd and 4th

Hearing screening must be provided annually for preschool children 3 years of age or older in any public or private educational program or licensed child care facility, and for all school age children grades kindergarten, first, second and third; are in special education class; have been referred by a teacher; or are transfer students. These screening services shall be provided in all public, private, and parochial schools. In lieu of the screening services required, a completed and signed report form, indicating the child had an ear examination by a physician and an audiological evaluation completed by an audiologist within the previous 12 months, is acceptable.

Vision screening must be provided annually for preschool children 3 years of age or older in any public or private educational program or licensed child care facility, and for school age children in kindergarten, second and eighth grades; are in special education class; have been referred by a teacher; or are transfer students. Such screening services shall be provided in all public, private and parochial schools. In lieu of the screening services required, a completed and signed report form, indicating that an eye examination by a doctor specializing in diseases of the eye or a licensed optometrist has been administered within the previous 12 months, is acceptable.

Being Kind and Generous

This weekend at Mass, Jesus reminds us of the importance of reaching out to those in need. It is easy to be kind and generous to our friends and family. As followers of Jesus, we also need to be kind and generous to people who cannot repay us. As the dinner table this weekend, or maybe on the way to school next week, talk with your child about the importance of giving without expecting anything in return.
