“Jesus is living next to you, in the brothers and sisters with whom you share your daily existence.”

St. John Paul II

From Mr. Merrick

Dear St. Jerome Families,

Thank you to our Home and School Association, Student Council, and all that attended and helped with last Friday's Trunk or Treat. We had an amazing turn out of both cars and trick-or--treaters. Our next Home and School event is Family Bingo; please see below for more information.

Starting tomorrow, Thursday, we will be using the new visitor's entrance. All parents and other guests of St. Jerome School will use the stained glass doors before the school yard (a picture is below). There is a lion statue in front of those doors, and we have a new school sign being made to permanently mark the spot. The doors in the school yard will only be used by students and staff crossing between the buildings; all other traffic (visitors and deliveries) will use the new entrance. This new entrance has two locked sets of doors before the school office as well as an additional set of doors that is locked before entering the school. All visitor traffic will be directed to stop in the office first. In the office, we have a shelf for items that you are dropping off as well as a lost and found.

In addition, we have two shelves in the school office with school apparel on sale. We have a selection of t-shirts, lanyards, car magnets, and other school items. These items are available for purchase from the school office staff.

For students in kindergarten through 8th grades, our Family Connection Liaison, Melissa Rizzo-Bilynsky, will be starting her classroom visits and guidance lessons in November. She has made arrangements with each classroom teacher to visit either weekly, every other week, or monthly, depending on the needs of the class. She will be working with each teacher to teach lessons on social skills, conflict resolution, and good communication, all in line with our school's Catholic values. A paper was sent home in the Wednesday Folder with her contact information and more information. We are also grateful that she arranged yesterday's presentations on internet safety for 1st-4th grades and 5th-8th grades.

On Friday, our students may wear Phillies shirts in place of their uniform shirts to celebrate the Phillies making their first World Series appearance since 2009! This is completely optional and we are not asking for any donations. Go Phillies!

Thank you for your generosity with October's Spirit Day. We raised $372.00 toward a new sound system in the school hall. The work is scheduled to be completed by Thanksgiving.

For Halloween, we will be having an outdoor costume parade at 9:00 AM on Monday, October 31st. Students in PreK-3 to 3rd are welcome to dress in their costumes and parents and other guests are invited to assemble in the school yard. It is a Halloween themed dress down day for all students (no donations necessary). We will be having activities for the students in the afternoon.

As a reminder, winter uniform will begin on Tuesday, November 1st. The uniform requirement handout is available below for reference. Students are welcome to switch to the winter uniform before November 1st, if you prefer.

Please see below for information about applying for Children's Scholarship. I encourage all of our families who meet their requirements to apply early. As of the 2023-2024 school year, no scholarship will be less than $1,200, and the scholarships will continue through 8th grade. http://www.csfphiladelphia.org/scholarship

Have a great week; St. Jerome and St. Lucy, pray for us!
