On February 11, the NC American Legion Division III held its Oratorical contest at Post 6 in Chapel Hill, NC. Three out of five districts submitted their District winners to compete in this competition on the Constitution and its Amendments. With 75 spectators listening, Cadet Sergeant First Class Caroline Call-Artis, a sophomore at Morehead High School representing William C. Johnson Post #534 Mayodan, NC gave her presentation on "Who Am I-What it means to be a good citizen and the 16th Amendment-Congress's right to impose Federal Income Tax". The five judges consisted of a Doctor, a Retired College professor, a local Chapel Hill small business owner, a former Air Force ROTC instructor, and a City councilperson as the youth of America shined. All three candidates are winners, but the competition rules only allowed the Division to send one student to the Department of NC level competition on March 4, 2023. Caroline finished in 3rd place and received a Certificate of Appreciation, Division III coin, Oratorical Bronze Medal, and a check for $200.00 from Division III Commander Bo Durham.

The NCHSAA is planning a formal introduction luncheon and press conference for the inductees and their significant others at the NCHSAA Office in April. Congrats Coach!
Jimmy Teague | Reidsville
Jimmy Teague has jumped around to many NCHSAA Member Schools and even to the collegiate ranks, but one thing has been a common denominator at all his stops, winning. Teague started his coaching career in 1979 and just hung up his whistle in January of 2023 following another run to the State Championship Game in Football for his Reidsville Rams. Teague’s 1980’s football team at Pine Forest finished the regular season undefeated and was the only Pine Forest team to accomplish that feat in the last 33 years. He is responsible for the only conference championship in Garinger High School in the last 23 years in football, the 1990 Conference Championship that saw Teague selected as Conference Coach of the Year.
Perhaps Teague’s biggest impact has been at Reidsville, where he led the Rams to eight State Championships, numerous Conference Championship and was Conference Coach of the Year more than ten times. He has served Past President of the NC Football Coaches Association and been active with Fellowship of Christian Athletes as an Area Director for Rockingham and Caswell Counties. He finished his career with 374 wins and just 111 losses through a 36-year career.
For the fifth time in the last six seasons going back to 2017-18, Reidsville High School’s men’s basketball team has won the Mid-State 2A Conference regular season title with an undefeated regular season! The 20-0 Rams are playing Friday night against T.W. Andrews in the championship game of the Mid-State 2A Conference Tournament at 7:30 p.m.! Congratulations to the Rams, and best of luck tonight, as well as in the upcoming state playoffs! (Photo courtesy of Rockingham Now).

Dakota's research was titled Seed Drilling for Our Oceans.
