Multimodal and digital text sites
Dust Echoes
Dust Echoes - This site features 12 beautifully animated Dreamtime stories from Central Arnhem Land. Stories are accomapnied by Teacher Resource packs, additional images and mp3 files.
Australian Screen
Australianscreen provides a rich resource of film clips with teachers notes for screening in the classroom. View and download clips from Australian feature films, documentaries, children’s films and television programs, TV programs, advertisements, historical footage,with extensive background information and education ideas.
Winged Sandals
Winged Sandals - Contains four animated Greek mythology stories. Before reading students can explore the characters and other information related to the story. The site also includes games and a make and do section.
Fables from Aesop
Fables from Aesop - This site has four of the stories retold by Tom Lynch. Each story contains animated images designed from handmade patchwork tapestries.
Rockford's Rock Opera
Rockford's Rock Opera - An audio visual adventure! This story has narration, sound effects, songs and videos. Scripted by and featuring Steve Punt, Rockford’s Rock Opera tells the story of a boy and his dog who arrive on the mystical Island of Infinity. Infinity is home to the last one of every extinct animal species
The Myths
The Myths - This site contains nine free world myth stories. The myths are told using Flash animation and are accompanied by an overview of the culture, the pantheon of the gods and a series of exercises based on that culture.
Comic Book Trailers
Comic Book Trailers - Fabulously animated trailers for comic books. Be warned there are trailers for comics not suitable for children so it is best to preview and select one that would be suitable for the concept you are teaching.
Digital Booktalk
Digital Booktalk - Book trailers are short, two to three minute videos that introduce the basic storyline and in which the story is re-enacted with similar artistic and creative decisions made by a movie director as to what parts of the story are presented in a film he or she is creating. This site has 132 book trailers specfically made for K-12 students. Check out the example linked below.

The Literacy Shed
A massive collection of resources here organised into 'sheds'. Check out the animations, story starters, writing inspiration sheds just for a start.
Oxford Owl
The Oxford Owl site has been upddated with a dedicated school section. You can create a class login and now all 250 free eBooks are also tablet friendly!
National Geographic Young Explorer
The NG site offers interactive magazines on high interest topics for young students. NG also offers Pioneers and Pathfinders editions for older students.
NOTE: Create your own icon titles by using the site Icon Scrabble. Thanks to Shellie Tancred for discovering this fun tool.
Read Works
This site has an amazing number of reading passages with comprehension questions to accompany each passage. The 1400 fiction and non-fiction passages are lexile leveled and can be searched via lexile level, grade or a skill/strategy that the passage lends itself to. In addition there are series of lessons for K-4 on concepts such as genre, author's purpose, character, cause and effect, prediction, sequencing and many more.

PBS Learning Media
PBS Learning Media is a site with tens of thousands of classroom-ready, digital resources including videos, games, audio clips, photos, lesson plans, and more! You can search, save your favourites and share them with others. Best of all, access for educators is FREE - just register an account using your @det email address.
Read Write Think
Read Write Think has been around for a while and but it just keeps building and building. With 57 student interactives designed to provide students with enganging ways to create products such as CD/DVD covers, poems, book covers, comics, storymaps, timelines and much more.
