January Advisement Schedule

We will implement the advisement schedule for the first eight (8) days in January. During advisement time, please work with your students on setting goals, reteaching expectations and procedures, reestablishing relationships, and building community. Each teacher and team can use the advisement time as they see fit. If you need additional guidance or ideas, please see a member of the advisement team lead by our counselors.

Report Cards

Report cards go home on Monday, January 11, 2016. Please use the envelopes from midterm to send home first semester report cards.

You will have the following enclosures to include: Academic Assistance Letters (for failing students), Award Ceremony Information (for students receiving awards), Immunization Letters (for select students), Lunch Charge Letters (for select students), GMAS Individual Student Reports (for most students), and Student Enrollment Verifications for all students (need returned with changes, if applicable).

If you have a student new to JMS, please see your grade level clerk for a new report card envelope. We have a limited supply, and each student receives one envelope for the year.

First Semester Celebration Update

Students who have a 74% or higher in all classes on their report cards will have the opportunity to participate in a celebration. A Google Doc has been set up for teachers to help students sign up for their celebration. Each 3rd period teacher will receive a set of colored wristbands to distribute to their students based on their chosen activity (advance reservations required). Students must have a wristband to enter the activity (color coded to match activity). Students who do not meet this requirement, they are to remain in their 3rd period class. This is a great opportunity to reteach, regroup on team, etc.

The connection teachers and leadership team will host the students in their activities.

6th Grade Celebration: Wednesday @ 1:30 PM

7th Grade Celebration: Thursday @ 1:30 PM

8th Grade Celebration: Friday @ 1:30 PM

JMS Team Update

Officer Gardner will be on light duty assignment at Safety and Security for the next four weeks. If you have any safety concerns, please let a member of the leadership team know so we can call dispatch for assistance.

Ms. Jamie Foulks will be attending nursing school to pursue a nursing career. Please wish her the best, as her last day will be January 22, 2016. She has supported all of our students and teachers this past semester. Thank you!

Ms. Jeniece Stewart, ISS parapro, had to resign to care for her son. Please keep her family in your thoughts during this difficult time.

We currently have three classified openings: Stellar Substitute, ISS Paraprofessional, and MOID Paraprofessional (additional support). If you know if anyone who would be a great addition to our team, please ask them to apply online.

If we are unable to fill the stellar substitute position, we will not be able to offer this support. Therefore, it is imperative to use the AESOP substitute process to secure substitutes in advance. If we are unable to secure substitutes, we will have to arrange alternate coverage utilizing teachers during their planning periods.

Brief Observations and Formative Observations

The leadership team is completing Brief 3 observations and beginning on Brief 4 observations. Our goal is to have all observations completed prior to the end of February. We will conduct our annual evaluation summaries prior to Spring Break. Final RBES updates will be due during post planning in May 2016. If you have any questions about the timeline or process, please see a member of the leadership team.

RBES updates & Chalk Talk

All data charts in the community planning rooms need to reflect end of semester 1 results. RBES Chalk Talk posters are to be ready for your team's WOW Day. Electronic RBES udpate/reflection is due one week after your WOW day. If you need assistance using the PD&E digital tool/RBES midyear implementation update, please let a member of the leadership team know so we can provide you support.

Award Ceremonies in January

Following the issuance of report cards, we will begin the process for verifying and printing our awards: All A's, All A's & B's, Perfect Attendance, Connection Awards, Community, Leadership, Excellence, and the prestigious "Black Knight" award. We need to ensure that student names are spelled correctly and students earning an award receive an award.

Mr. Keag will provide additional information on the training page along with applicable deadlines. We will design an invitation and program for each grade level event. The award ceremonies will be held in the JMS Cafe at 9:30 AM with all students attending and parents invited for students receiving an award.
