Here we go!

Another successful Field Day has come and gone! This format worked well, we had a combo of inside and outside activities, and the kids had a blast! What more could we want?

As you are well aware, SOLs start this week. Everyone has worked hard to prepare the children, now it's time to stand back and let them shine. I have to thank Jill for all of her diligent preparations and organization. Truly, no one can understand what an overwhelming task it is to create for all of the testing sessions, adjust schedules, create groups, find examiners and proctors, choose locations, and keep everybody happy in the process unless, you have actually had to do it. During testing, please feel free to see me with student issues and other concerns that Jill might usually take care of for you as her plate will be overflowing.

Another special thank you has to go out to 1st and second grade and the music and art teachers for being so flexible with PE times and scheduled class times during testing. We all know how important routines are to the little ones and it takes extra effort to keep them focused and on track when the schedule is upset!

As parents begin to ask, hint, suggest, write, notes, or imply, that teachers should have a say in student placement for next year, you are all reminded to refer them to me if they have concerns. If you would like to pass on a concern yourself, please do so. I Placement cards should be coming in, and classes will be formed in the next few weeks. You all know, I am all ears if you want to talk about specific children or worries you may have as their teachers on their behalf.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Beth :)

Have a great weekend from Ella, Thelonius, and Mary Lou!

Amy Ansell,

Once again, you surpassed all expectations with the "We Haz Jazz" Fifth Grade Chorus performance. What a way to showcase the talents of our children, along with allowing amateurs, such as Jill, Mike, and myself to be a part of the fun. We have been eagerly standing by for our Hollywood calls, but they must not have our correct numbers, as they have not come through as of yet!

Food Lion Math night is coming! We need at least 5 volunteers. Last year was really easy and fun! The information is below. Please email Julie or Alie to let if you can help.

What: Children and their families come shop at Food Lion. Each grade level (K-5) has a specific activity to complete as they are shopping. Volunteers simply check in the students, give them their designated activity and collect it when they are finished. They have drawings throughout the evening and each child gets a goody bag when they're finished.

    When: Wednesday, May 18th (5:00 p.m. -8:00 p.m.)

Where: Food Lion on Shore Drive (in Cape Henry Plaza by Hot Tuna)
