Reeceville Elementary School
Monday Morning Message: October 19, 2020
Return to In-Person Instruction: November 9, 2020
On Wednesday, October 13, 2020 our School Board of Directors approved a new plan for hybrid learning that will allow us to safely accommodate all our students in-person in a hybrid format. This means that our students will come to school in either an A, B, or C cohort group. Beginning November 9, our students will attend school in-person with every other Wednesday becoming an asynchronous, remote day for all students. You can access the November through January calendar here. Information regarding which cohort your child(ren) is in will be sent by the end of the week.
While students are not in person, they will access classroom instruction via Zoom and through a variety of synchronous and asynchronous lessons. Students will be able to see and interact with teachers and in some cases, with their classmates.
Beginning on Nov. 9th, special education students and English Language Learners (those students who receive a supplemental or full-time level of special education services and those English language learners who receive the most intensive level of support services) will attend four days per week during asynchronous Wednesday weeks and five days per week on alternating weeks. These families will be contacted directly by the district.
For the duration of remote learning, Wednesdays will become an asynchronous full day for all students (non-live instruction) so that our teachers can engage in professional development and have adequate planning time for hybrid instruction. These remaining dates are October 21, October 28, and November 4.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to your school administrators with any questions. Answers to frequently asked questions can be viewed here. You can also email questions to: CASDReturns@CASDSchools.org.

Mrs. Grune's Class: Filling Their Reading Toolbox
Ms. Grune's second graders have been hard at work filling their toolboxes with skills to help them attack words they don't know while reading. They also learned some strategies to help make their addition easier and faster. We also had a special meeting with Megan from the Philadelphia Zoo to learn about the UNLESS Contest that we will participate in this year. This year-long, project-based contest encourages students to create real solutions to environmental issues in their lives.
Mrs. Kimes Third Grade Readers
Hi from Mrs. Kimes Third Grade Class! We are hard working students and we have just begun our newest unit in Reading focusing on Books in a Series. We are learning to pay close attention to the main character of our series and learn as much as we can about him/her. We want to make our main character our best friend. As we read, we will notice how he/she handles a problem because that will help us identify important character traits. We love moving from one book to another!
Mrs. Washington's Tips for Reluctant Readers
As a reading specialist, I get to talk with many children about their reading lives. Often when I ask about the types of books they like, I am told, “I really don’t like reading.” This response comes not just from our striving readers, but sometimes from those that are thriving. It can be a burden for parents to encourage these children to spend more time reading.
Research has shown that increased time spent reading self-selected books in and out of school has the greatest impact on improving reading abilities. For our reluctant readers, we want to be sure they choose books based on interest as well as ones that they can read independently. As a parent, you may introduce books that are part of a series, such as Mo Willems Pigeon series, Junie B. Jones, The Magic Treehouse or the Who Would Win? books. Series books are a great way to hook a reluctant reader.
Epic has many series books as well as collections. You’ll be able to find multiple titles about certain topics of interest. Have fun exploring available titles under sports or baby animals, for example.

Speaking of Scholastic, our book fair begins this month. It’s a great opportunity to introduce children to series books. Below are images of just a few of the available series book. Some are old favorites while others may be new to you. Have fun checking them out with your child!

21st Century After School Program
Hello Reeceville Elementary Families!!!!
My name Ms.Claudette, and I am the Program Coordinator with the 21st Century After School Program at Reeceville Elementary. This school year we would like to share some exciting news and tell you all about some new learning experiences that is going to be offered to your child(ren).
Like many schools throughout Chester County, classes are being offered remotely/virtually. Many teachers have begun to incorporate new tools and resources into their daily lessons. And students are experiencing new methods of learning which has an important, lasting impact on their educational experience. Throughout this transition, it has become very apparent that with the required physical distance between teachers and students, it is more important than ever to find ways to connect with students and keep them actively engaged, motivated and safe within the virtual learning experience.
I am excited to share with you that the 21st Century will be offering a virtual after school program. Our program will be operating Monday through Thursday. During this time your child will be provided with academic support that will assist with daily school assignments, extension activities and/or homework. Our program will also provide STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) and Social Emotional Learning Enrichment.
Our 21st Century teachers will also be utilizing the Matific, educational math program. This program has over 1,500 interactive and engaging math activities and lessons. It is one of the most effective ways to help children learn the fundamentals of mathematics. Implementing Matific is an EXCELLENT way to help boost “math confidence” within children, while turning screen time into learning time.
If you would like your child to participate in the 21st Century Virtual After School Program, please feel free to contact me:

I look forward to speaking with all of you and starting this new and exciting school year!!
