FAQs
How do I record my student’s attendance in the online system?
You don’t have to! At ISWA, attendance is measured through our reports and K12 systems. The attendance department identifies all students from the week before who have not met required attendance policies. If your student is going to miss a Live Class Connect, you and your student must notify the content teacher or Homeroom Teacher.
What are students required to do in order to not get marked as unexcused?
We require students to make weekly contact with their teachers by going to their Live Class Connect sessions, turning in homework, doing their required Monthly Progress Conference, and communicating with their teachers (this can be done through Live CC’s).
My student received five unexcused absences but logged in so why were they marked as unexcused?
Logging into the system does NOT count as meeting our policies. Students need to be engaged and going to class, so we expect students to do more than logging in.
We are going on vacation or going to be out of town for more than a week, how do I excuse their absences?
We do not excuse student attendance for vacations. Per state law (the BECCA Bill), there are certain circumstances where students can be excused. If your student is going to miss a week or more due to vacation, your student must still make two-way contact by email, phone, or text with their Homeroom Teacher or other content teacher.
My student was sick and out for a couple of days, how do I excuse them?
Since our attendance requirements are for the span of a week and not daily/per class, your student can meet requirements on the other days they are able to attend. If a student is gone for one day, notify the teachers and have them meet policies on the other days during the week.
WHY did my student get a letter notifying me that they are going to be withdrawn?!
If your student is on the verge of, or going to be withdrawn because of attendance, it means they are in violation of our attendance expectations and the 20-day withdrawal policy. A student who consecutively gets 4 weeks of unexcused absences (one month), is going to be administratively withdrawn by the FCL and their choice transfer form will be sent back to their home school district.
My student was referred to a Family Academic Support Liaison but I do not know why.
We feel if a student is non-compliant with attendance for multiple weeks, they need additional support. The FCL will identify students who have missed 2 or more unexcused, consecutive weeks of school and refer them to a support liaison.
If you have any questions regarding excusals, truancy, and other attendance problems or concerns, please direct your questions to Kelly Lindberg, the Family Compliance Liaison at klindberg@k12insightwa.org or klindberg@k12.com. Any questions regarding attendance letters, notifications, information sessions, office hours, etc., please direct your emails to Renee Tapia at rtapia@k12insightwa.org.
