Principal's Message - Week 4
Dear Maple Place Families,
Can you believe that the first month of school is coming to an end? With the end of September comes the cooler temperatures and the many fun fall activities. Maple Place is in full swing and you will see that our clubs and activities are now underway. Please be sure to check out the Extra Curricular Activities spot in our newsletter each week for upcoming meeting dates and sporting events.
As October approaches, please be on the look out for additional information about Halloween at the middle school level. More details will be coming out in next week's Weekly Wrap Up. The first week of October is also the Week of Respect. Please see below for more details regarding the week's activities.
There are also numerous parent events coming your way in October that are included in this week's newsletter as well as Dr. Godlesky's September Newsletter which was sent out last night.
NJSLA scores from the spring of 2022 should be arriving by mail within the next week or so. If you are interested in the district score reports, Mrs. Martinez will be presenting this information as part of Dr. Godlesky's State of the District report at the October 19th Board of Education meeting. All are welcome to attend.

Week of Respect:
Maple Place Middle School recognizes the Week of Respect, October 3rd-7th, in order to emphasize the importance of respecting ourselves, others, our school, and our community. This week also focuses on the importance of character education and teaches students strategies on how to be compassionate, thoughtful, caring people both in and outside of school. This week is just one of the many weeks throughout the year designed to foster and promote an environment of respect for all students in order to create a positive school climate which centers around growth and learning. In observance of New Jersey’s Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act, Maple Place Middle School will have special activities during the Week of Respect to heighten awareness and focus on the prevention of harassment, intimidation, and bullying.

Monday, 10/3 - Wear BLUE to represent peace & signify the importance of National Bullying Prevention Awareness.
Tuesday, 10/4 - Strong As A Team - Wear your favorite sports gear to show that we are stronger as a team.
Thursday, 10/6 - Wear GREEN to show respect for the environment.
Friday, 10/7 - Oceanport Spirit - Wear your school colors to show respect for our school, classmates, teachers & community.

Clubs & Activities:
Clubs and Activities are up and running!
- Chorus will practice on Wednesdays after school until 4:00pm.
- Charger Band will be practicing at 7:15AM in the band room on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays each week. Students should enter the building through the Main Entrance Door.
- Running Club will not have practice next week.
- Student Leadership is getting underway and will have its first meeting on Thursday, October 6th at 7:15AM in the library. If you would like to make a difference in the community please consider attending. This year we are looking to improve on the amazing contributions that we made to Oceanport and surrounding communities. Please have students enter through the main entrance.
- Side by Side Club will be meeting on Mondays from 2:45 -3:45. The first meeting is Monday, October 3rd.
- Creative Writing Club will meet on Wednesdays from 2:45 - 4:00. The first meeting will be Wednesday, October 12th.
The first Just Dance Club meeting is Wednesday, October 19 at 7:15 in room 101. Come ready to dance along to some of the latest Just Dance hits and help create theme days for the rest of the year.
ESS Parent Workshop #1:
As students continue to reacclimate to school, it is important that the caregivers in their lives understand the unique COVID-related mental health responses and challenges that we all face. This workshop will assist caregivers in understanding these challenges and identifying
students in need of additional support. Participants will receive information on specific strategies they can use to help support students (and themselves) throughout the re-acclimation process.
The Oceanport School District is committed to raising mental health awareness and support for our students, staff, and community. Please join us for Workshop #1 of our parent series entitled, Taking a Mental Health Pulse: Student Mental Health and Academic Re-acclimation presented by Dr. Coleen Vanderbeek, Psy.D, LPC. This virtual seminar is next week; Thursday, October 6th from 6:00-7:00pm.
