Next Week is an 'A' Specialist Week!!
From the Principal
Dear Cheetah Families,
The work of our classified employees can be invisible to the community, but it enables teachers and administrators to focus on teaching and learning. Without the dedication of our support staff, our school could not function properly and we would not be able to educate our young Cheetahs. This week, we celebrate our paraeducators, office staff, bus drivers; custodians, kitchen staff, administrative staff, tech services, and our security staff.
This support is critical to student success and I encourage the entire community to join me in thanking these amazing staff members and their commitment to providing the best educational experience for our children. Classified employees deserve our gratitude and appreciation not only this week, but all year long for their important contributions to our community. At Chain Lake, we formally celebrate our classified staff along with our certificated staff during Teacher Appreciation Week, May 6 – 10, 2019.
It truly takes all employees working together to educate our students. Classified employees are integral to ensuring we are growing every Cheetah, every day in every way!
Thank you classified staff for all you do!

2nd Grade Concert - Next Week!!
Save the date! The 2nd grade classes of Mrs. Clopp, Mrs. Echterling, Mrs. Jefferson, and Ms. Zehm will be performing next Thursday, March 21st. All four classes will perform at 6:30 PM. Please have your child arrive no earlier than 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time. Also, please consider carpooling due to our lack of parking here at the school. Thank you for your support of our music program. We hope to see you! If you have any questions, please feel free to call or email Mrs. Moyer. She can be reached at (360) 804-3145 or via email at moyerk@monroe.wednet.edu.
YAY for Yoforit!
Our last Yoforit FUNdraiser night is scheduled for next Tuesday, March 19th, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Just a reminder that we are in a contest against the other elementary schools in the Monroe School District! The school that brings in the most money from October to March will earn the Frozen Yogurt Truck for their school. Come meet up with your friends, enjoy some yummy frozen yogurt, and raise money for our school all at the same time!
2019-2020 Kindergarten Information
Chain Lake is now accepting kindergarten registration forms for the 2019-2020 school year. If you have an incoming kindergarten student or know of a neighbor or family member who may have incoming kindergarteners, please feel free to pass along the information. Chain Lake will once again be offering free all-day everyday kindergarten. In order for the school district to balance class sizes at the elementary schools and to ensure proper staffing, we would like to have Kindergarten registration forms by April 1st. Your child’s immunization records and proof of age (birth certificate, passport, an adoption record, etc.) are needed to register. Children must be 5 years old by August 31, 2019 to qualify for next fall’s kindergarten class. Please call the school office at (360) 804-3100 if you have any questions.
Parent-Teacher Conferences - Next Week!
Mark your calendar! Spring Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for next Tuesday, March 19th through Friday, March 22nd. Unlike the fall conferences, not every student will be scheduled for a spring conference. If your child’s teacher feels a need to meet with you regarding your child’s progress, a conference notice will be sent home.
There will be early dismissal for all students during this time. Students will be dismissed at 12:55 PM. All children will eat lunch during the school day, so please provide a sack lunch or lunch money for your student. More information will be coming home soon.
Last Chance Yearbook Sale
Great news! If you missed the yearbook sales earlier in the school year, you’re in luck! The 'Last Chance Yearbook Sale' is now through next Friday, March 22nd. New order forms went home with students. You can also check out all of the options and pay for your yearbook online by going to ybpay.lifetouch.com and using code 11186619. Can’t remember if you already purchased a yearbook or not? You can always call the school office to check.
The Student Council has decided to once again offer the exciting add-ins that parents can purchase for an additional charge. However, the basic yearbook with FULL COLOR pages is selling for the low price of $15.00 during the final sale! Don’t miss out on the memories!!
CLE S.T.E.M. Learning Expo
An exciting night of S.T.E.M. is coming to Chain Lake! On March 27th, many of our students will be showcasing their impressive Science, Technology, Engineering and Math skills. Our exhibit of inventions, investigations and research portfolios is the culmination of many weeks of hard work by our young S.T.E.M. experts - we hope you'll join us in this celebration. Approximately 15 of our students that participate in the CLE S.T.E.M. Fair will be attending the Expo at the high school in April. They are anxious to share their hard work and respond to questions from the people who attend. Middle school students will also be presenting their work, and high school students will demonstrate what they are learning in various high school programs. This is a great opportunity to see how students learn and develop over time and the educational opportunities available to our students in Monroe. The District S.T.E.M. Learning Expo will be held on Wednesday, April 24th, 2019 at Monroe High School from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. We hope to see you at both events!
Influenza at CLE
We are continuing to see many students diagnosed with influenza here at Chain Lake and at surrounding elementary schools. Because of this, we wanted to give you some helpful tips to help keep your student healthy.
Symptoms of influenza and influenza-like illness may include fever (100 degrees or higher), cough and/or sore throat. Some children may have respiratory symptoms without a fever. Symptoms may include runny or stuffy nose, body aches, chills, headache, fatigue, diarrhea, and/or vomiting. Sometimes a child may show a change in behavior such as crankiness, unusual crying, decreased appetite, or lack of interest in play.
We follow public health recommendations to ensure the safety of all our students. During your child’s school day we implement the following practices:
- Washing hands frequently throughout the day.
- Teaching children to cover their coughs and sneezes using the crook of their elbow and keeping hands away from faces.
- Routinely cleaning surfaces and items that receive frequent touch with hands or mouths.
- Observing children daily for signs of illness. Children who have symptoms of illness are being sent home.
Please assist us at home in these ways:
- Practice hand washing with your child using soap and water. Hand sanitizer may be effective, but is not a substitute for hand washing.
- Remind your child to cover his/her coughs and sneezes and keep hands away from faces.
- Observe your child for signs of illness before sending him/her to school.
- Keep your child home if he/she has a fever of 100 degrees or higher, has other symptoms of illness, or is just not acting typically. If in doubt about whether your child is ill, please keep him/her home to observe.
- Remember that anyone sick with a temperature of 100 degrees or more, vomiting, or diarrhea must be symptom free for 24 hours (without the use of medications)
- Plan for alternate childcare in case your child becomes sick and you are unable to leave work.
We understand that additional time at home may be a hardship for families but it is necessary to help keep our school healthy. Please call the Health Room at (360) 804-3132 if you have any questions. Thank you for helping us keep our kids healthy!
Your Child's Name
Yes - this is what should be on any item of clothing that your child may bring to school. Each year bags and bags of clothes with from our Lost & Found bin are donated to local charities because there is no name written on anything. We ask that you please label your student’s clothing before sending it to school. In addition, it’s a good idea to do periodic checks since we never know when an item is placed in the bin.
New Address??
Please remember to provide us with an accurate mailing address for your family. This is an important request for school documents and for safety reasons.
Many items are being returned as ‘undeliverable’ both by the District Office and our school.
We thank you in advance for your help with this matter. Please call the school office if you have any questions.
Student Council Spirit Day
Get ready! The next Student Council Spirit Day is coming up! The Student Council has voted to have Friday, April 12th, be 'Rainbows and Unicorns Day.' Students are encouraged to wear rainbow colors or some type of unicorn-themed clothing. Don't miss out on the fun!!

Monroe School District's Tip Reporting Service
Safety is our top priority. That is why we use SafeSchools Alert, a tip reporting system that allows students, staff, and parents to submit safety concerns to our administration in four different ways:
Phone: 360-799-5419
Text: Text your tip to 360-799-5419
Email: 1003@alert1.us
And now 'there's an app for that!' Open the attachment below to learn more about the new app feature.
Anyone may easily report tips on bullying, harassment, drugs, vandalism or any safety issue of concern. Tips may be submitted anonymously, too. Thanks in advance for helping to keep our school community a safe place to work and learn! Together we do make a difference.
