Here's What's Happening at Milan Elementary School
A SAFETY REMINDER ABOUT STUDENT MORNING DROP-OFF PROCEDURES
If you must bring your child to school in the morning DO NOT USE THE PARKING LOT IN FRONT OF THE SCHOOL!! Please remember that the parking lot in front of the school is closed to all traffic except school staff and buses until 8:00 a.m. Lately, parent traffic in this area has been increasing and presents a danger to staff members trying to cross from their cars to the front entrance.
To drop a student off, please use Lakeside Drive at the bottom of the hill and follow the drive up the hill to the drop-off area at the pool side entrance and exit back down Lakeside Drive to Carr Street.
Also, please remember that students should not be dropped off at school until 7:45 a.m. (Student Handbook, pg. 7) Although entry doors are unlocked at 7:30 a.m., this is for the convenience of our staff. MES does not have a before school childcare program and the school cannot guarantee the safety of students dropped off unsupervised before the designated time.

These Students Care About Others!
The Milan Elementary School Student of the Month theme for February was “Caring” and focused on students who exhibited compassion for others and were thoughtful, helpful and sensitive to the needs of others.
Chosen as outstanding examples of this very desirable character trait were:
Kindergarten: Emilia Robinson, Auden Rohrer, Bella Shook, Madison Burkhardt, Emma Rae Ashcraft. First Grade: Hayden Knapp, Hayden Hartman, Josselyn White. Second Grade: Zackery Hartman, Alexis Bishop, Brooklyn Smith, Kynnadi Hartley. Third Grade: Brianna Sams, Kloee Callahan, Madison Disney. Fourth Grade: Allison Williams, Kylie Scholle, Tryniti Reed, Eli Horn.
The boys and girls received special pencils and certificates prepared for them by Mrs. Thelma Reese and presented by Mr. Greg Taylor; both representing the Milan American Legion, sponsors of the program. They also had this group photo taken. Watch for it to appear in the local paper very soon!

March Students of the Month are Good Citizens
During the month of March, teachers were watching for students who exemplify what it means to be a “Good Citizen” at MES; those who respect others and their property, are helpful and considerate, and work hard every day to make our school a better place.
Pictured below are the boys and girls who were chosen as outstanding examples of this very desirable character trait:
Kindergarten: Finnegan Hennies, Ava Jackson, Bryleigh Osborne, Jordyn Landis, Aviah Moody. First Grade: Taylor Stock, Makenleigh Baylor, Kaydience Stahle. Second Grade: Kayleigh McIntosh, Aubrey McAdams, Jillianne Herd, Dakota Huff. Third Grade: Abigail Carpenter, Jayden Disbro, Brooklyn Bledsoe. Fourth Grade: Karina Hoffman, Jessi Bitter, Tristen Jutzi, Braesyn Livingston.
We appreciate these students and their efforts to make MES a great place for all of us. They also had a group photo taken and it will be in the local newspaper in the near future.

April 12 Spring Music Programs will Feature Kindergarten & First Grade Students
Mark your calendars! Get those cameras ready! Call the grandparents! Our Traditional Kindergarten and First Grade students will be performing in our annual Spring Music Programs coming up on Thursday, April 12. Everyone is invited!
The fun-filled evening begins at 6:00 p.m. with the kindergartners singing songs to welcome spring. The first graders follow at 7:00 p.m. sharing a variety of their favorite springtime tunes.
We hope you'll join us for one or both of these fun events. It's a wonderful opportunity for your child to perform in front of an audience and a great time for showing them family and community support. See you there!

Milan Elementary will hold registration for students beginning Kindergarten in the fall on Thursday, April 5th. If you have a child who will be five by August 1, we urge you to contact the school at 654-2922 to set up an appointment. (Please note that students currently in the Readiness Kindergarten program do not need to attend this registration session.)
This is also the date to register if you are interested in our new Pre-School Program for children who will be 4 years old by August 1. This program is replacing our Readiness Kindergarten program which has been discontinued due to funding. Space for this class is limited and will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. This program will be very similar to our former Readiness Program but there will be a monthly fee in addition to some other possible changes. More information about the Pre-School Program will be available during registration.
Please do not feel that you have to wait for a birth certificate and/or immunization record before you register your child. You have until school starts to produce these documents. It is very important that we at least get your child registered and complete the screening process before August so we can order enough supplies and set up class rosters. Thanks!

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!
We’d like to thank everyone for faithfully clipping those Boxtops For Education labels, attaching them to the collection sheets and sending them to school. Thanks to your efforts our school earned a total of $1184.60!
A whopping $736 was earned during the second semester collection and Mrs. Burton’s First Grade Class brought in the most labels earning them a pizza party for their hard work. Great job boys and girls!
This program will continue next school year so please keep clipping those coupons. Collection sheets are available in the school office and also online on the school website. This is “free” money for our school!
