Kam'ron's Interview Conducted by our Communication Crew

Alayna G.: What is your favorite book?

Kam'ron: My favorite book is Dragon Blood. It is sad, not scary. I like it because you see people and dragons. It's creepy.

Asa: What is your favorite part of the week?

Kam'ron: I like math because it's fun. It helps me learn. I like time.

We Need Your Help with the Gardening Contest!

Our class is participating in the 4th annual Container Garden Project for K-5 classes. Please follow this link for more information. I thought it would be fun to do a Mad Hatter's Tea Party theme since we are studying Fairy Tales. We would LOVE to have your support! We need donations of containers that may be at the Mad Hatter's Tea Party (cups, tea kettles, bowls, a top hat, etc). If you are willing to swing by your local thrift store and pick up any of these items, please sign up on this Google Doc. We will also need soil. Please contact me if you have any questions or would like to help in another way.

What We are Learning

Reading: We are very excited to continue our Folktales unit. This week, we will be comparing and contrasting various fairy tales from around the world. We will discuss how storytelling is connected to culture. We will continue to practice with the RAPS strategy for our mClass written comprehension questions: R-restate the question, A- answer the question, P-prove it (where did you find it in the book), S- summarize.

Writing: Students will begin writing their own folktales this week.

Fundations: We will begin Unit 11 on Monday. Please look for more information in your child's homework folder.

Math: We continue addition and subtraction within 100 and move to addition and subtraction within 1,000. We will focus primarily on subtraction this week during our whole group focus lessons. Please refer to the strategies sheet for the strategies that we use in class for help with homework.

Science: We are still enjoying Sound School! Last week, we focused on the Chain of Sound (source, medium, receiver). We will continue sound school on Wednesday. Mark you calendars! Our Sound School performance at the Orange Peel is on April 14th from 9:00 am-11:00 am. Learn more about this incredible program by following this link:

Social Studies: We will explore culture through various interpretations of popular Fairy Tales. This week we are focusing on Cinderella stories from around the world.
