Principal's Note
September 7, 2020
Good morning Hawk Families!
Thank you for joining us last week for Meet the Teacher Night and our Meet the Teacher Parade! It was great to see you and your Hawks. We are ONE day away from my favorite holiday of the year! Yes, my favorite holiday is the first day of school! While the first day of school will look different this year, even virtual it will still be magical. I can't wait to see our Hawks in their virtual first day of school pictures! The first day is full of excitement and is a reminder of the endless possibilities that each new school year brings for our Hawks. School begins Tuesday, September 8th at 8AM. Here is a quick video that details two ways that you can log on to your teacher's Zoom. If you have any questions about logging in or are in need of technology please give us a call.We will continue to distribute technology and Hawk Home packs this week.
While, we are beginning school virtually we are finalizing plans for when we begin to offer face to face instruction. Please complete the survey here at https://tinyurl.com/harlleereturnplan to let us know how your Hawk will be attending school beginning October 5th. You will need your child's ID number to complete the survey. ID numbers are located on the back of their iPads. We are looking forward to a great week; please reach out if there is anything we can do to be of assistance.

Mensaje del director
¡Buenos días familias de Hawk! ¡
Learning Models
Distance (At-Home) Learning
How it works
The district will offer an asynchronous distance learning model that has been approved by the Texas Education Agency. This model allows students at home to take classes online.
Attendance will be taken. During the school day teachers will provide direct instruction. Students will also complete assignments and projects independently, at the direction of their teacher. They will have access to recorded lessons, small group virtual tutoring and support, and online materials.
Schedule
The model will follow the regular schedule for the elementary distance learning while students at the secondary level will follow their class schedule.
Opting-in
Parents selecting this option must remain with the distance learning model through the end of a grading cycle. At that time, parents can opt for the on-campus (face-to-face) learning model. Parents must notify their child’s school if they want to change options for the start of the next grading cycle. Parents may continue to participate in the distance learning model until otherwise notified.
On-Campus (Face-to-Face) Learning
How it works
Learning happens in a traditional classroom setting five days a week with a teacher on campus using all safety guidelines in place included in the Reentry Parent Playbook.
Safety first
For all school levels, safety is a top priority. Because limiting the number of people in the school at one time is a critical factor in controlling the spread of COVID-19, a hybrid attendance schedule may be considered to allow for social distancing.
Any school that has more than 60% of the students returning for in-person learning will be considered for implementation of the hybrid attendance schedule OR provide an alternate five-day site. In this case, students will attend school on campus two or three days a week or attend an alternate five-day option site. If the hybrid model is selected, then the remaining days of the week students will participate in distance (at-home) learning model. Parents will be notified by school of the option if the hybrid schedule or alternate site will be implemented.
Opting-in
Parents selecting this option may return to the distance (at-home) learning model at any time during the grading cycle. Parents are required to notify their child’s school if they would like to return to the distance learning model. Once the distance learning model is selected, the student must remain in this model until otherwise notified.

Dallas ISD offering weekly curbside pickup meals service from Sept. 10th!!!!
Dallas ISD will offer curbside meal pickup through the first four weeks of the 2020–2021 school year. Meal service is set for late afternoons so that parents, guardians, and/or students can conveniently pick up meals after the end of the school day and at a time that many parents may be on their way home from work.
Dallas ISD students will be required to have their student identification number to pick up the curbside meals. Families can either bring the student ID card with them or a district employee at the meal pickup location can use the student’s name to determine the student ID number.
The curbside meal service schedule is as follows:
- September 10, 2020, 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM
- September 17, 2020, 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM
- September 24, 2020, 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM
- October 1, 2020, 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Each curbside meal pickup day will provide a week worth of meals. All meals are served at no cost.
Meals will be distributed at most comprehensive secondary schools. Please go here for the latest list of participating schools.
“We are proud to provide no-cost meals to Dallas ISD students as they study from home. These meals can save families a lot of money and are healthy and delicious,” said Michael Rosenberger, Executive Director of the Dallas ISD’s Food & Child Nutrition Services department. “We invite parents to pick up a week’s worth of meals at a time through this program.”
When school buildings reopen and students have the choice of in-person or distance learning, registered Dallas ISD students learning from home will still have the option of curbside meal pickup.
New for September 2020, families of registered Dallas ISD students now also have the option of pre-ordering meals online. Parents can pre-order meals and select the most convenient school for pick-up. Note that the online pre-ordering of meals is optional and is not a requirement to pick up meals.
