Meet Miss Halpin
Intern Today...School Counselor Tomorrow
A message from Miss Halpin
Hello everyone!
My name is Sarah Halpin and I am beyond excited to be apart of the Lakeland High School guidance staff for the next couple of months. As I am sure most of you know, Mrs. Valonis will be having a baby in the next couple weeks. That being said, I will be her substitute school counselor for grades 7,9, and 11.
Past Experience & Education: I received a Bachelor's Degree from Penn State University in Human Development and Family Studies. Throughout my life, I always knew I wanted to work and help others. After my undergraduate internship, I knew it was my calling to become a school counselor. Throughout my graduate career, I worked as a daycare teacher and Therapeutic Staff Support (TSS). During my TSS experience, I was lucky enough to become acquainted with the Lakeland community. That being said, I am truly excited to be back here and serve as your school counselor for the new few months.
A little about me: Outside of school and work, I spend a lot of my time with my family and friends. My favorite things to do in life are laugh and eat (especially chocolate)! My favorite place in the world to visit is New York City because of my love for broadway musicals.
As I said, I am so excited to be here at Lakeland High School and serve as your substitute school counselor! I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know you all within the next few months!
Sincerely,
Miss Halpin
The Unique Role of Miss Halpin
Upon completion of her School Counseling Program at the University of Scranton this December, Miss Halpin will not only be a PA Certified School Counselor but will also be filling a unique slot here at Lakeland. Mrs. Valonis will begin her maternity leave soon and Miss Halpin will be here to continue her work as a school counselor so that Mrs. Valonis can enjoy her time with her new baby. So, as a special note to the classes of 2019, 2021 and 2023, please offer Miss Halpin a kind welcome to Lakeland.
Miss Halpin is here to help address the academic, personal/social, and career preparation needs of our students! She will be meeting individually with students, running classroom counseling lessons, assisting with the already implemented school counseling events (i.e.: College & Career Fair), in addition to all the other roles and responsibilities of a high school counselor!
Stop by the counseling office to see Miss Halpin and introduce yourself; welcome her to the TRIBE; and show her how great it is to be a Lakeland Chief!
