5th Grade at Adat Chaverim..... Simply the BEST!
Welcome Back!
Hello all,
We hope you all had a wonderful winter break! It was a very relaxing time, and I know all of the kids enjoyed a break from school. Over break, I was able to see Jerusalem with some of our 5th and 8th grade families. It was wonderful! Now I have the travel bug!

This month in 5th Grade Judaica!
5th Grade has now completed our Israel unit!
Starting today, we are learning about Jewish life cycle events, starting with birth, baby namings, and yes... brit milah! You may get some interesting questions:).
This is a favorite unit to teach because students see direct relevance in their lives and the lives of those around them. As we progress through the unit, we will also explore bar/bat mitzvahs, weddings, and death. Please talk as a family and share any traditions you may have experienced with these life cycle events.
Today, there IS homework. It's pretty easy:). We are exploring our names and why our parents picked them. Please send the homework sheet back next Sunday. I am attaching a PDF, as I know papers often disappear!
This Month in 5th Grade Hebrew!
We are making big progress continuing in the study of prayers. We studied the Shema and V'ahavta. These are two key important prayers. Many Jews say the Shema at least twice a day (during the morning and evening services). Many also say it before going to bed at night and for strength when they are sad.
V'ahavta not only teaches us to love God, but also to love Jewish learning.
We are learning Mi'hamocha and Avot v'Imahot , the 1st blessing of the Amidah, the central prayer in every prayer service.

Oliver - Macharnik
Hi, my name is Oliver Hamby. I am looking forward to another great year. Last year I taught 4th grade Hebrew so I already know the majority of this 5th grade class. I am a sophomore at Centennial High School. There I am the captain of the soccer team, along with school soccer I am the captain of my club team. Along with soccer I am going on my 6th year of piano. I am looking forward to another fun year with some of the same students, and the new additions to the 5th grade class.
