In the latest example in a long history of working together, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) donated $1.8 million, the proceeds from the Meet the Mormons film, to the American Red Cross.

Meet the Mormons is a feature-length film that tells the story of six members of the LDS Church across the world. The film debuted in theaters nationwide October 10, 2014, and the LDS Church donated the net proceeds (box office proceeds less distribution expenses) to the Red Cross. More information on LDS Charities (the humanitarian organization of the LDS Church) can be found at ldscharities.org.

The Red Cross and the LDS Church have worked together to help people in need for nearly 100 years. During World War I, the Women’s Relief Society of the church joined with the Red Cross as they participated in food production and conservation, fund drives, sanitation, child welfare work, and other service. The Relief Society also collaborated with the Red Cross in the early 1900’s when more than 10,000 Relief Society sisters completed Red Cross courses in home nursing, first aid, and nutrition.

Since that time the Red Cross and LDS Charities have worked together as they have responded to local, regional, national, and international disasters and emergencies. http://www.redcross.org/news/article/Net-Proceeds-from-Meet-the-Mormons-Film-to-Support-Red-Cross
