Round 1 of 2016 STAAR testing is in the history books! From observation and from our team's perspectives, our students put forth their best effort on this first set of very important exams. With only two months left of school and only one week before TerraNova and SUPERA testing, it goes without saying that every day of school is incredibly important. Thank you for working alongside your team and our coaches so that the lessons we create between now and the last day of school are exactly what our students need and exactly what our students deserve!
Here is important information for this coming week:
Cigarroa will host the Thomas Jefferson Neighborhood Schools Tour this Tuesday from 9:00-9:45. Invitees to the bus tour will meet in our library before a brief tour of our campus.
This Monday before Noon, in preparation for our REAL School Garden, please bring your homerooms to vote on their favorite of the top six student garden designs posted in the main hallway. In whichever way you prefer to collect student votes, I ask that you use the button below which has a link you may use to enter your student's votes. This Thursday from 3:30-5:30 in the library, Cigarroa will host Design and Dine dinner, the first major event in preparation for our REAL School Garden. Attendance to this event has been capped to 50 attendees from the nonprofit organization, so invitations for Cigarroa staff were sent via email using a randomized computer selection process. As outlined by REAL School Gardens, the bulk of the invitees should be family and community members, but 15 seats were reserved for Cigarroa staff. Even though this first event is limited, ALL staff will most definitely have a hand in installing our amazing garden in the fall on our September 30th Installation Day!
After-school tutoring resumes this week for 4th and 5th grades this week!
Pre-K Roundup will take place the entire week in the main hallway and main office. The district has extended Pre-K Roundup hours this year and we thank you for your flexibility and understanding as we ask teacher assistants to support Maggie Sanchez as she works to enroll 77 new Cigarroa Cowboys!
The PTA is currently selling Field Day T-shirts in advance of our Field Day on May 27. The PTA will be by your rooms daily to collect any money for Field Day T-shirts.
3rd-5th grade teachers should be ready for your upcoming benchmark tests this week:
- April 5: 3rd and 4th grade math
- April 6: 3rd and 4th grade reading
- April 7: 5th grade science
Thank you for having your data ready before our data meetings on April 12. If you have any questions, please refer to Christina Golden's email from April 1.
As we take down the butcher paper from our bulletin boards, thank you for saving it and reusing it as you cover your materials for TerraNova, SUPERA, STAAR, and, yes, ACPs. We have a couple of very big events this week and many visitors will be in our building. Thank you for updating your bulletin boards to reflect the season -- spring!
Have a productive week before your next three-day weekend!
April's Staff Incentive!
It's April, which means it's time to retire our shamrocks. But, don't worry! A few of our teammates have come up with a great idea to still sport your jeans during the month of April! Here are the details:
- Every staff member will receive 10 raindrops in your mailbox.
- Write something good that you have observed from another Cigarroa staff member or student on your 10 raindrops.
- Turn them into Mrs. Flores.
- She will give you 10 jean passes to be worn during the month of April.
- On the days you decide to use your pass and wear jeans, please see Mrs. Flores, Mrs. Johnson, or myself so that we can sign and date your jean pass.
