Our Latest Updates
Dear Westwood Families,
We want to thank the parents and guardians of our Westwood students for the attention to checking with your kids throughout the year regarding how they feel each day prior to coming to school. When your children have had colds or any COVID like symptoms, you have kept them home in an abundance of caution. Thank you so much! We want to encourage everyone to continue this practice as it is working and contributing to keeping our school community healthy.
In the January 14, 2021 CDPH guidelines, it states, “Implement symptom and exposure screening for all staff and students at home each day before leaving for school.” Therefore, effective April, 19, 2021, we will shift to at home screening only.
An additional change that has come forward is the time frame required for quarantining students and staff when they are a close contact with an individual that has tested positive for COVID-19. 10-days is now the time frame for quarantine and self-monitoring throughout that time frame and beyond. Self-monitoring must continue for a 14-day period so if your child is quarantined for 10-days, please be vigilant about monitoring the four additional days.
Our Board of Education is continually reviewing options for next steps to continue the re-opening process. Please look for communication in the weeks ahead for updates.
Thank you all for your constant support while we work to Make Magic Happen!.

VIRTUAL TALENT SHOW
Does your child have a talent that they'd love to share with the school? We'd love to see it! The in person show is on hiatus but we'd love to see a 90 second video (or shorter) of your child's talent. Please send videos to wwesroomparents@gmail.com by April 19th to be showcased in a virtual talent show.
RUNNING CLUB
Did you know that Running Club is still running this year? ;) Well, it is and we hope that your student(s) will participate.
Since we can't run on campus this year please tally your child's miles run outside of school for each month and then input the month's total in this form each month through May. At the end of each month starting in March, classrooms will earn the Golden Shoe for the miles most run. At the end of the year tokens will be earned per 5 miles run. Please only include the miles run from Feb 22nd to May 31st (google form will stop taking responses 6/2).
And here is a PDF of a run log to help your runner keep track of the miles they've run.
There are some great running routes on the PTA website https://www.westwoodelementarypta.com/running-club.html and you can also use https://onthegomap.com/#/create to calculate the distance of your own routes.
VIRTUAL BOOK FAIR
Hello Roadrunners! The virtual Scholastic Book fair has begun! From now till Sunday April 4th, your Scholastic purchases will earn 25% back for the school. Every year, the book fair puts hundreds of books in the hands of young readers, updates our school library and adds new reading materials in the classrooms. Help your reader and the school by purchasing during our virtual fair. Teacher wishlists are available for you to choose a gift to your class. Free shipping for orders over $25.
READY, SET, ART!
Student Council is proud to announce Ready, Set, Art! - an art competition and fundraiser. We can't wait to see all the amazing artistic talent at Westwood and help raise money for our school. Teachers will be passing out blue flyers to on-campus students or at their next VLA materials distribution, or you can print/view the digital version here. We hope to see many students participating!
PRESCHOOL REGISTRATION IS HERE!
If you or someone you know is wondering about PUSD preschool, please take a moment and review this video. It highlights the benefits your child will gain when you enroll them in one of our preschool classrooms. Don’t have a preschool age child? Consider sending this video to a neighbor or friend who might be interested.
