Band Booster Assocation (BPA)
The middle school band booster will serve as one of the committees from the high school band booster. Setting it up this way will allow students to fundraise for marching band/big trips beforehand, transition parents/students easier into high school band, allow high school parents/students to help out with the middle school and vice visa, and ultimately be a 6-12th grade music program.
Meetings are held on the first Monday of every month. We will have our first official meeting on February 6th from 7-8pm at FBHS band room. During that time, we will have elections for the Middle School Liason. The current nomination on the floor is Fallon Baily. Looking forward to seeing everyone there!
7th and 8th Large Group Perforamce Evaulation
Our main goal for this third 9 weeks is the annual Performance Evaluation. This event is sponsored by the Georgia Music Educators Association and is officially known as the Large Group Performance Evaluation, which we abbreviate to LGPE.
For LGPE, the bands learn 3 pieces from a required state list and perform all 3 as a complete performance for 3 judges. These certified adjudicators critique the bands on many aspects of the performance and give scores for each and an overall rating of superior, excellent, good, fair or poor. One could think of it as the equivalent to the Georgia Milestones for band.
There are two concerts associated with this event for our band program. The first is the Pre-LGPE concert on February 28 at 6:30pm at The Venue at Friendship Springs. We will have judges to give feedback and comments and ratings in preparation for the LGPE.
For the second concert, our 7th and 8th Grade Band will travel to Clark Central High School in Athens, Ga on Wednesday, March 8, 2023. A detailed itinerary will be sent home and emailed home closer to time, but we will return before the school day is over. 8th grade performs at 10am and 7th grade at 11:30am.
In preparation for LGPE, the 7th Grade Band will rehearse Thursday afternoons from 4-5. The specific dates are: February 2, 9, 16, 23 and March 2. The combined 8th Grade Band will rehearse after school on Mondays afternoons from 4-5. The specific dates are: January, 30 February 6, 13, 27, March 6.
Please remember that these rehearsals are required. Any official school conflicts are handled on a case-by-case basis with the coach or sponsor. Except for illness or compromise with another school sponsored activity, any other absence from a rehearsal will be unexcused. If a student misses more than two rehearsals(unexcused), he/she will not be allowed to participate in LGPE and will need to make up the performance by completing an alternate assignment.
Both February 28 and March 3 are required performances, as are all concerts by our students. EVERY student is important and required for every performance, and we appreciate everyone working with our performance evaluation schedule this year!
