7th Grade Advance and 8th Grade Band

Upcoming Concerts: Pre-LGPE Concert February 22 at 7:00p.m. in DMS Gym

LGPE Concert Thursday, March 3, 2022 at East Jackson Comprehensive High School. Advance 7th Grade performs at 10:30am and 8th Grade Band at 12:00pm

Our main goal for this third 9 weeks is the annual Performance Evaluation. This event is sponsored by the Georgia Music Educators Association and is officially known as the Large Group Performance Evaluation, which we abbreviate to LGPE.

For LGPE, the bands learn 3 pieces from a required state list and perform all 3 as a complete performance for 3 judges. These certified adjudicators critique the bands on many aspects of the performance and give scores for each and an overall rating of superior, excellent, good, fair or poor. One could think of it as the equivalent to the Georgia Milestones for band.

There are two concerts associated with this event for our band program. The first is the Pre-LGPE concert on February 22 at 7:00p.m. in our gym. We will have judges at the school to give feedback and comments and ratings in preparation for the LGPE event that is held at East Jackson High School.

For the second concert, the band will travel to East Jackson High School on Thursday, March 3, 2022. 7th Grade performs at 10:30am and 8th Grade at 12:00 p.m. A detailed itinerary will be sent home and emailed home closer to time, but we will return before the school day is over.

In preparation for LGPE, and as included on the DMS Band Calendar of Events, the 7th grade band with the help of a few 8th graders will rehearse after school on Tuesday afternoons. The specific dates are: February 1, 8, 15 and March 1.

The combined 8th grade band will rehearse after school on Thursday afternoons. The specific dates are: February 3, 10, 17, and 24.

Please remember that these rehearsals are required. Any official school conflicts are handled on a case by case basis with the coach or sponsor. Except for illness or compromise with another school sponsored activity, any other absence from a rehearsal will be unexcused. If a student misses more than one rehearsal (unexcused), he/she will not be allowed to participate in LGPE and will need to make up the performance by completing an alternate assignment.

Both February 22nd and March 3rd are required performances, as are all concerts by our students. EVERY student is important and required for every performance, and we appreciate everyone working with our performance evaluation schedule this year!

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns and as always, thank you for your support of the DMS Band Program!

Percussion

The high school band percussion ensemble is holding help session for 6th-12th graders interested in getting better on their instruments. Rehearsal start Monday, January 24th at FBHS Band Room and continuing every Monday through the rest of the year from 3:30-5:30pm. Middle school students can ride the bus over to the high school at dismissal. Students should be picked up outside the band room located in the back of the high school. When you first enter, take a left and keep going around the building until you see a loading dock and a garage door. The garage door is attached to the band room. If you have any questions, please let me know.
