Chula Vista High School - Home of Champions!
2/8/2021 - 2/14/2021
Message from the Principal
Dear Spartans,
Congratulations to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for winning the Super Bowl this evening. Although I was personally rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs, I can appreciate the hard work, sacrifice and dedication that it took both teams to make it to the biggest stage in the NFL. And I believe that Tom Brady definitely solidified his status as the greatest of all time (G.O.A.T.).
As a former college football player and high school football head coach, I enjoy watching the game, the chess match between coaches and the battle on the gridiron between the players. However, before the game was played, I was moved by the words of Vince Lombardi. One of the greatest football minds of all time. He said:
"the road has been rough, the load, heavy and nothing from hell to sky has turned us back. We did not get here alone, we arrived as one. With courage, with stamina, with teamwork. After all the cheers have died down, the stadium is empty, after the headlines have been written, the measure of who we are is what we do with what we have. And I firmly believe, in our finest hour, our greatest fulfillment to all we hold dear, is that moment when we work our hearts out in good cause and lie exhausted on the field of battle, victorious. Because it's not whether we get knocked down, but whether we get back up....as one"
The road has definitely been rough, but we are not alone. Courage, stamina and teamwork are only a few of the virtues we have displayed over the last year. And although we have been knocked down, together, we will get back up, victorious, as one. I urge all of you, students, parents/guardians, teachers and staff, to continue to push forward. Work together! Celebrate every small victory, and learn from every defeat. We will overcome, if we work as one!
Let's stay Spartan Strong, no matter the distance!
Thank you!

Home of Champions!
¡Gracias!

CVHS Spartan Athletics Update from Coach Wilson
I wanted to give you a quick update on athletics for this 2020-21 school year:
As of January 13th, the CIF has placed water polo (boys and girls) in Season 2 and switched Swim & Dive into Season 1. Given that both Swim and Cross Country are allowable in the “Purple Tier”, the CIF San Diego Section has decided to tentatively start their season on February 1. You can read the official athletics update from our District here:
tinyurl.com/SUHSDathleticsupdate
We received good news that we as a district will be moving forward with the following sports to begin practice on these dates:
Boys & Girls Cross Country: February 8, 2021
Boys & Girls Swim & Dive: February 15, 2021
Boys & Girls Tennis: February 22, 2021
Boys & Girls Track and Field: February 22, 2021
CLEARANCES
(for Cross Country, Swim & Dive, Tennis and Track & Field ONLY):
We will be holding drive-thru clearances for the sports mentioned above on:
Monday, February 8th through Thursday, February 11th from 3pm-5pm
** All Clearances will take place in the K Street Parking lot.
Parents and student athletes are asked to remain in their cars at all times and follow all COVID guidelines including wearing a face mask. Parents and student athletes will enter the parking lot in the entrance closest to the Little theater (It is the first entrance if you are headed east or the last entrance if you are headed west). We ask that you complete the clearance process before you come and bring the appropriate documentation. We will have a printer onsite in the event that you need to print your confirmation.
In order to participate, please go to registermyathlete.com and register for these sports only. If you registered earlier in the year, your registration is incomplete as there is an additional COVID waiver that will need to be printed and signed (by hand). Please note that we will need an updated physical as they are only good for 365 days and need to be valid through the duration of the season. Here is a link to the District Physical Form so that you can print it out for your sports-physical appointment.

Please click here for the instructions on how to clear your athlete through register my athlete: tinyurl.com/clearanceinstructions.
Furthermore, if you cannot get a sports-physical appointment through your health care provider, I was able to confirm that South Bay Urgent Care will be doing walk-in appointments for $25. Just walk-in with the district physical form.

Lastly, in order to participate, the student-athlete will have to submit a negative COVID-19 Test. The test must be taken after February 1st. Here is a link to testing sites around San Diego, many of which are FREE of charge.

A document for the negative test will need to be submitted to our School Nurse before the start of the season of sport. Her email is: Jessica.starr@sweetwaterschools.org
