Summer Math Program - Grades 5-8
After a summer without a summer math program the math teachers are pleased to have a program this summer. The program will help students who need individual help catching up to grade level as well as students who want to increase their skills. At the beginning of the school year students will be assessed to determine their math grade level and will then be placed in the correct grade level class. All students who have registered for next year may attend at no cost.
We will be meeting on the following Saturdays: June 26, July 10, 17, 24, and August 7, 14. Times will be from 10:00 to 1:00. Breaks will be from 10:45 to 11:00 and 11:45 to 12:00 in which students can play in the gym. Students can attend any number of sessions that they are available.
Also, students can be dropped off or picked up during the break times. Questions? Email Ole Hedahl: ohedahl@thefrankln.academy

Washington State Journal Project - 4th Grade
4th grade completed a social studies project to show all the knowledge they have gained about Washington State History. Students selected an important figure in Washington history to write a journal about.
The Washington State Journal Project required students to write creatively while at the same time intertwining historically accurate information (through the events, objects, animals, setting, authentic language, and customs of the time period) into their journal or diary. Students had the flexibility to either write from the perspective of the person they selected from Washington State History, or as an employee, friend, or relative of their focus person.

Camping Week in Mrs. Owen's Pre-Kindergarten Class!
Mrs. Owen shared this:
"Get the s'mores ready! We have been having a lot of fun learning more about camping. Many of them already know quite a bit. Exploring more about Nature, forest animals, insects, the night sky, rivers, fishing, fire, tents, and even motorhomes, got your kiddo's even more interested and excited about our week. We are Happy Campers!
Here's what else we have been up to:
- Finished up Individual Assessments
- Alphabet and Number Handwriting
- Reviewed our Sight Word Bank
- Reviewed 3D Shapes
- Camping Addition and Subtraction
- Created Fireflies that Glow in the Dark! Your kiddos love these! We went into the teacher's kitchen and turned all the lights out to watch them glow. We also discussed bioluminescence, and how these awesome insects produce a chemical reaction inside their bodies that allows them to light up.
- Painted Handprint Campfires, folded 3D tents and campsites, and stacked s'mores. These turned out so realistic, careful though you don't want to eat them, they are made of cardboard, cotton balls, and paper!
- The s'mores crafts were such a temptation that we closed out our camping week by making real ooey gooey s'more treats! The kids loved watching the marshmallows puff up in the microwave. Yum!"

What Our Parents Have to Say

Students in Pre-K and 2nd Grade
Our family relocated to Bellingham in 2016, we discovered The Franklin Academy, shortly after that. Franklin has helped both of our kids come out of their shells. Being from Trinidad and Tobago, education is very important to our family and the school has allowed the kids to grow socially and academically while constantly pushing them forward.
We appreciate the small class sizes, the caring teachers, and the diversity at The Franklin Academy. This last year has challenged everyone, but the teachers and staff at the school provided a bit of stability with our children and they have loved being able to see their friends, teachers, and the staff!
We’re looking forward to what the next year will bring for our children and the wider Franklin family!
Hula Huts in Kindergarten PE this Week!
Ms. Yorks shared this:
Clay Charms & Board Games - 8th Grade
Our awesome 8th grade students chose between making a series of 8 small Clay Charms, or to create a Board Game with 4 clay pieces. We learned how to make small air-dry clay objects, and various ways to use paint to make a board for a game. Students were able to practice, and use a variety of materials to build their mini sculptures & experiment in painting. Some of these amazing students worked collaboratively to create 12 pieces of clay charms to be a part of a game! ~ Miss Rachel Simpson #BeKindLetsShine #RachelsWhimsicalArt
We checked out 6,553 books this school year!
Music in Kindergarten!
"Mrs. Snyder read a wise and funny book to us, and we sang and played along! The story was about a little mouse whose father had given her good advice. She remembered what he had said just in time to avoid a tricky cat! As the story unfolded, we sang the song that the cat taught the mice to fool them. To keep the beat, there were sand blocks, rhythm sticks, lollipop drums, castanets, shaker eggs, and tambourines and some I probably missed! What an engaging way to practice! We were completely absorbed in the rhythm and the beat of the song and story. Wonderful! Thanks, Mrs. Snyder!"
