Boeckman Bulletin
March 18th, 2021
Note from the Principal
Dear Boeckman Creek Families,
It has been wonderful to welcome all of our students, kindergarten through fifth grade, back to school. Our porches and classrooms are humming with energy, enthusiasm, joy and excitement that hasn't been felt in a long while, and it's hard to know who is more excited the children or their teachers. As I walk around our school and check in with children I am touched by many of the conversations I've had. I think one of my favorites from today was, a second grade student shared how much he would miss school during spring break, and he couldn't wait to return to school as he imagined he would be bored at home.
I have appreciated your patience, grace and consistent support as we have had so much to consider as we return to school following the state's guidelines.
It is with a full heart I wish each of you a very lovely Spring Break, and want to let you know, like my friend in second grade, I look forward to coming back together after the break.
With Spririt,
Lindy

Information for 3rd, 4th and 5th Grade Parents Regarding State Testing from Oregon Department of Education
Under the Student Assessment Bill of Rights, the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) and Oregon’s school districts must provide families with a “Notice of Statewide Tests and Opt-out Form” 30 days before the start of statewide testing.
This year, school has been significantly disrupted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and other factors. In response, ODE plans to ask the United States Department of Education for a temporary pause (also known as a “waiver”) in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math testing. A pause is also being requested for science testing, but science testing is not subject to this opt-out rule.
- If this waiver request is approved, then statewide ELA and Math testing will not happen this year, and there will be no need for parents to submit opt-out forms to their child’s school.
- If the waiver request is not approved, test windows will open on April 13th, 2021.
Please follow this link to read the 2020-21 Annual Notice for Statewide Tests and follow this link to access the Opt-out Fillable Form from the Oregon Department of Education.
Registration for the 2021-22 School Year
Online registration for incoming kindergartners and new students for the 2021-22 school year is now available. If you have a student you wish to register for the 2021-22 school year please follow this link.
2021-2022 Preschool UPDATE
West Linn-Wilsonville School District is closely following COVID-19-related health and safety guidelines from the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) for the 2021-22 preschool program. At this time, the district hopes to offer preschool 2021-22 classes described in a link here. However, our ability to reopen preschool is dependent on future updates from ODE.
Beginning on April 2, 2021, families may use our online registration system to preregister for preschool. Completing the preregistration holds a preschool spot for your child while we await the 2021-22 school safety guidelines from ODE. When we are able to confirm the reopening of preschool, families will be contacted to confirm registration and collect a deposit.

Spring Break Travel Advisory
The West Linn-Wilsonville School District recommends that both staff and families follow current Oregon Health Authority travel recommendations. As of February 24, OHA recommends people stay home or in their region and avoid non-essential travel to other states or countries. People arriving in Oregon from other states or countries for non-essential travel, including returning Oregon residents, should (but are not required to) practice self-quarantine for 14 days after arrival and limit interactions to people in their household. These recommendations do not apply to individuals who cross state or country borders for essential travel. Current OHA Travel Guidance can be found on the Oregon Health Authority website
COVID-19 Testing in WLWV Schools
In the coming weeks, West Linn-Wilsonville schools will begin offering COVID-19 rapid testing in extra care rooms. Rapid Testing for COVID-19 will only take place if a student is exhibiting symptoms and only with parent-guardian permission. If it is recommended a student take a rapid COVID-19 test at school, a parent-guardian will be contacted to discuss important details and gain permission. A consent form will need to be signed when the parent-guardian comes to pick up the student. Testing will be conducted by trained district nurses or health assistants. Student/family privacy will be prioritized during the testing process.
Family Empowerment Center Launches “Back to Hybrid” Backpack Campaign
The WLWV Family Empowerment Center received a $3,000 grant from the Rotary Club of Wilsonville in late February, going toward much-needed resources and supplies for West Linn-Wilsonville families. Some of those funds will be used to purchase new backpacks and school supplies for students returning to hybrid learning this month.
In addition to the generosity of the Rotary Club of Wilsonville, interested families can help make this fundraising campaign a success by donating any of the following items to the Family Empowerment Center.
- Backpack
- Lunchbox
- Reusable Water Bottle
- Face Covering (cloth)
- Earbuds/Headphones for remote learning
- Easy-to-open snacks (Nut-Free please)
- School Supplies i.e. pencils or notebooks
Donations will be accepted through March 19 and can be delivered to the school district’s Operations Center (2755 SW Borland Road, Tualatin) or to the Family Empowerment Center (located on the backside of Wilsonville High School) on weekdays between 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Families can also drop off donations at the West Linn Public Library beginning March 15. Library hours are 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Backpacks will be filled with supplies and given to students across the district. Thank you for your support of all West Linn-Wilsonville families and students!
Bus Information
To see what bus your child is assigned to, log into your ParentVue account. On the left hand side click on Bus Information. If your child is assigned to a bus, it will list your bus number, time of pick up and time of drop off. If you need to request a change, click the button and request that change. That will send your request to the bus company.
With the need for contact tracing being so high, we have to encourage a pretty rigid adherence to bus assignments and/or getting adjustments made.
If you need a 1 day change, please call the school office at (503) 673-7750 and we will communicate that change to your child's teacher.
Meal Service for Students in Hybrid Learning
- Hot lunch will be available for all students participating in hybrid learning during days they are learning at school. No ordering is required.
- Hot lunch will not be served at school on Fridays due to the shortened school day.
- Only lunch will be served during in-person learning days. There will be no breakfast.
- Even for students in hybrid learning, families can pick up a week’s worth of meals at Wilsonville High School on Tuesdays and Fridays from 11:00-12:00. Meal sets include breakfast and lunch.
- Meals are free for all students.
- Meals will not be offered during spring break.
To learn more about the Meal Program or to contact the nutrition services department, please visit their webpage on the district website.
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
As with all things this year, arrival and dismissal, will look different from previous school years. In keeping with Oregon Health Authority guidelines we have reorganized our arrival and dismissal procedures. We have made the below videos to help explain the new procedures. We ask that you review and share this information with your child and family members that will be transporting or walking with your child to and from school.
A key change to our arrival and dismissal procedures is all students will enter their classroom from the outside doors of their classrooms, versus walking through the hallways and porches. In following OHA guidelines we are asking anyone accompanying students to school in a car, remain in their car when they drop off their child. Or if walking with a child, we are asking you say goodbye to your child on the softball side of the school property. A cross walk attendant will be there to safely guide your child across the street where further staff will guide your child to the color coded paths that lead to the outside classroom doors.
Following these procedures minimizes the number of people on school property, allows for us to be following OHA guidelines of maintaining 6 feet of distance, as well as allowing for students to clearly see the color coded paths we have designed. We will have several staff members available to help guide your student safely to the back door of their teacher's class room.
We appreciate everyone's flexibility and patience as these new procedures are learned. The safety of your student, in conjunction with meeting the Oregon Health Authority guidelines, are our highest priority.
Welcome Boeckman Creek Families!
I hope your kids are enjoying being back in the classroom. This is an exciting step towards going back to school full time. Thank you teachers for all your hard work!
We have prepared a new STEM-Kit, please look at this together with your kids. It will be handed out directly to all students in school. Those of you still in CDL or FuelEd will be able to pick this up during library book pick up from 12:00-2:00 on Fridays. I hope your kids enjoy thinking about simple rockets.
Next year, a few of our board members will be transitioning out. The positions of Treasurer and Secretary are open for nominations during this next meeting. If you are interested yourself or know of someone who would be a great fit, please send us an email, a message or come to our next PTA meeting. We have really enjoyed working together, but we open our arms to anyone wanting to serve our Boeckman Creek community.
If you need to refresh you child’s school supplies, we have basic kits available for $8 on our website.
If you have not done so yet, please consider joining us in supporting Boeckman Creek. Find out more about us on our website at www.BoeckmanPTA.org or on Facebook page at Boeckman Creek PTA.
Please join us for our next PTA meeting on April 6, 2021, at 6:00pm on ZOOM, see Facebook for details.
Have a great Spring Break!
