10 Mid-Penn Conference girls soccer players to watch in 2020
Amanda Lee, Middletown
Position: Goalie
Class: Senior
Buzz: Mid-Penn coaches waved goodbye to a solid group of keepers following the ’19 season. A handful are now applying their trade at NCAA programs. Middletown skipper Tim Neff has the luxury of welcoming back one of the rising keepers in the conference, with Lee establishing her game in a tough MPC division. The senior returns after making 142 saves and landing a spot on the division all-star squad.
Soccer Spectators for this Week's Scrimmage
We will be issuing two tickets to all players via our Ticket Spicket platform for the scrimmage. Please check your email one day prior to the event for these online tickets to gain entry to the scrimmage this Thursday.
Along with the tickets, we will be issuing guidelines for soccer spectators at War Memorial Field prior to the scrimmage.
In the meantime, we ask all to navigate the Ticket Spicket platform as well as our NFHS Network. Directions to these items can be found on our latest fall sports update announcement.

2020 Preview: Middletown Blue Raiders
A pair of games on the calendar won’t even count in the win-loss column, but they were added to the slate by Middletown coach Brett Myers with a purpose. The Blue Raiders, primed to make another run at a state title, picked up a pair of scrimmages against 6A powerhouse Central Dauphin and 5A Governor Mifflin. Myers wanted his team to face an early test as they prepare for an abbreviated 2020 campaign. Fueled by a pair of high-end running backs, a junior quarterback just beginning to find his groove and a tough physical defense, the Blue Raiders should be the favorites to claim another Capital Division title.

Official practice begins, another sign that 2020 Mid-Penn fall sports season is real
“The toughest thing has been, I would say, the natural instincts of sports are to be together as a group. The thing you have to do now is sort of legislate against that,” Middletown boys soccer coach Brian Keyser said.
“It’s sometimes difficult to try and get these guys to remember what they need to be doing but also making sure they enjoy the game and the experience.”
As Keyser noted, making sure coaches put in place all of the school district’s health and safety guidelines was merely half the battle.

PIAA urges schools to follow Gov. Wolf’s spectator limits
As Pennsylvania state legislators fight to increase the spectator limit at high school fall sporting events, PIAA Executive Director Bob Lombardi is urging schools to be patient and comply with Gov. Wolf’s guidance.
An email sent from Lombardi to the PIAA Board of Directors asked PIAA executives to make sure schools are following the limits for attendance at fall sports, which is 25 for indoor events and 250 for outdoors. The Pa. House and Senate both passed a bill that would allow schools to decide the spectator limits, though Gov. Tom Wolf has indicated he plans to veto the bill.

Event information
We are extremely excited for our student athletes to be able to compete this fall. There has been a tremendous amount of thought and work into providing an opportunity for all to support our student athletes in various ways this year. Due to the ever-changing landscape of spectator restrictions, we are moving forward with the following procedures in collaboration with the Mid-Penn Conference, District III, PIAA and Governor’s mandates:

Middletown Teammates of the Week
Each week, Student-Athletes, Coaches and Faculty can nominate someone they feel is a great teammate for the past week.
The week begins on Monday and ends on Sunday at midnight. The list will be collected Monday of the next week and published to all the coaches and faculty members at Middletown area High School each Tuesday.
What makes a good teammate? Multiple reasons!
Here is a great quote by Kobe Bryant that can help sum it up:
"I'll do whatever it takes to win games, whether it's sitting on a bench waving a towel, handing a cup of water to a teammate, or hitting the game-winning shot."
The Blue Raiders instill the following leadership qualities P,R,I,D,E. When nominating a fellow Blue Raider, please list one of these qualities in your description.
P-erseverance, R-espect, I-ntegrity, D-iscipline, E-xcellence

EXAMPLES:
Xavier Engleton, Indoor Track, Grade 12 - Honor
“Xavier is a great mentor in the hurdles. He is always looking for places to give tips to the rest of us, using the knowledge he has gained from his own training. I wouldn't be where I am now without him.” ~ Jeff Bowerman
Johnny McGrain, Soccer, 10th - Courage
“Johnny is always encouraging everyone on the team to get better. Even when there are players that don't play as much he tries to encourage them to work hard and not give up on playing time as one of our captains.”
~ Owen Campbell
Erin Hill, Varsity Field Hockey, 12th – Perseverance
“Erin has worked hard each day to improve and it definitely shows every time she makes a huge defensive stop on the field. She embraces her role whether it's on the sideline cheering on her teammates or make great plays on the field. Erin has a lot of contagious spirit and it’s fun to see it spread to her teammates.” ~ Coach Slavin
