Ygnacio Valley HS: Wolf Den News!
Monthly Family News Letter #9 - May 2023

From the Princpal
We are winding down our year with the final push in May. So many positive things have been happening at YV lately. We hope you'll celebrate them with us such as spring sports, State Standardized testing to show what our students have learned, our Goodbye Rally, seniors anxiously finishing out their final year while looking forward to being a graduate, landscaping being installed in the front of the school, and student culture is positive and moving forward. We also want to remind parents that we are working on getting students to class on time. We are using a Minga App where students can either use it from their phone or chromebook to bring up their Digital Identification, and scan in for a tardy pass, or a bathroom pass, etc. It is important for students to bring their chromebooks every day to use the passes/IDs. We had over 5000 tardies for the month of March, which equates over 200 tardies a day. Please ensure you support our efforts in getting students on time to class and/or to school. Lastly, we are preparing for summer school, June 7th - June 30th which supports students with Credit Recovery. Please look in the mail, email, and parent square messages that lets you know your student is assigned to summer school. We look forward to a great month of May and you'll join us for all the positive things.
Students First. Learning Always!

Summer School June 7th - June 30th
SUMMER SCHOOL
Thank you for your partnership in supporting your student's academic journey at YVHS!
Summer School 2023, will run from June 7th to June 30th at Ygnacio Valley High School. Please save the date--if your student has received an F in any of their classes while at YVHS, they will automatically be enrolled in Summer School. F grades are not passing and students need to make up those grades to be on track to graduate. Summer School is the best time to make up these grades and stay on track to graduate with their peers.
Again, we are automatically enrolling ALL students who are credit deficient (have received Fs that have not yet been made up). This does not require an appointment with your student's counselor. In early May, we will send home a letter confirming enrollment. At that time, you can let us know if your student cannot attend Summer School.
If you have any questions, we invite you to reach out to us.

Advisory: Make Appointment for Advisory
PLAN YOUR FUTURE!
Advisory is for improving your learning and we expect you to take advantage of this opportunity! Right now, you are assigned to one of your teachers. However, you can still make an appointment with one of your other teachers! There is limited space so please check to see if there is room.
- Need help in Math? Make an appointment with your math teacher!
- Need to make up a quiz in Science? Make an appointment with your science teacher!
- Need to work on a group project for History? Make an appointment with your history teacher!
Go to https://www.teachmore.org/ygnaciovalley/students/ and login with Google Login
Click blue button “Student Created”
Select correct date, event (Advisory), and teacher
Remember: you MUST go to the teacher you select! Go immediately there before the tardy bell rings.
Teachers can also make appointments. If a teacher makes an appointment for you, you HAVE to go to that class. If you don’t go, you will be marked absent.
You have 3 choices:
You make an appointment with one of YOUR teachers and go to their class
A teacher makes an appointment with you and you go to their class
You go to your Home Advisory if you don’t have an appointment scheduled by the afternoon before Advisory (Monday for Tuesday Advisory; Wednesday for Thursday Advisory)
Remember: You MUST be in an Advisory with one of your own teachers!

IB Corner: Graduation, Exams, Next Year
Congratulations to all of our about-to-graduate 12th graders!!! We are so proud of every one of them as they round out their time at YVHS. There are over 125 seniors in IB classes--that is nearly half of our graduating class! Every one of these students made a positive difference in their own lives by taking an IB class and improving 21st Century skills like critical thinking and collaboration. Please see the list below for our IB Diploma Candidates (those who took seven IB classes).
IB Exams begin this Wednesday, May 1st and run until May 19th. Like AP exams, students are expected to show up on time and to stay for the duration of the exam. If there is an emergency and a student cannot take the exam, the next available make-up time is November, 2023. Please click here for the exam schedule.
Next year IB classes still have spaces left! Why take an IB course? Besides improving college and career skills, every IB course gives a GPA boost. Please contact either Carissa Weintraub, Program Specialist, or one of the Counselors to reserve a space! Available classes include:
Language & Literature (English)
Literature (12th graders only)
History of the Americas
Psychology
Visual Arts
Math Applications & Interpretations (recommended after Geometry instead of Algebra II)

What is Pass2Class?
Pass2Class offers free bus passes to Contra Costa students at the beginning of the school year to encourage the use of bus transportation to and from school. Pass2Class reduces traffic congestion and air pollution by reducing the number of cars being driven to school. Up to two months of rides are being offered for the 2021/2022 school year to help students as they return to in-person learning.
Passes are available while supplies last.
