Theme
This week we finally finished constructing our hampshire pig and our sheep.
The children are very proud of both of them. They have created displays so that others can come and learn about our animals.
We also began studying our last animal from the farm: the cow. The children started out making a list of all the things they know about cows. Then we began a list of questions to research, for example: how do you get milk out of the cow, where do cows sleep, who are cows predators. The children are very excited to read and research about the cow!
Reading
This week in reading, we completed our author study of Eric Carle. We researched his life and learned all about how he creates his books and illustrations. We also talked about the different describing words he uses when writing. We are trying to use more describing words in our daily writing.
We also learned how Eric Carle makes his illustrations. He paints a piece of tissue paper and then cuts it out to make a collage. We decided to make our own! The children painted large pieces of paper and next week we will cut the paper into different shapes to make our own collages. The children are so excited!
We also wrote our own version of Eric Carle's Head to Toe. We also learned a poem about a hungry caterpillar.
