FCPS Family Perceptual Survey
FCPS launched a survey on Thursday, January 24 to gather your perceptions about your child's school. The survey will close Friday, February 22. Lewistown Elementary sent a letter home with each student explaining the survey. The letter includes a link for parents and guardians to access and complete an online survey. This link- https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FAM2001 is specific to LES. A limited number of paper copies of the survey will also be available in the front office. Parent/guardian feedback is important to FCPS and the staff at Lewistown as we continue our work building on strengths and striving to make improvements as a partner in your child’s education. Please contact our front office if you have any questions about the survey. Thank you!

TeamLES Homework News
Reading builds brains, fostering early learning and creating connections in the brain that promote language, cognitive, and social and emotional development. While there is no solid evidence that homework is beneficial for academic success in younger kids, there is plenty of evidence that reading is.
Some Tips for Parents:
1. Students can read what is provided in their book bags, what they bring home from the media center or what you have available at home.
2. Let them reread the same books. Rereading helps build fluency. Over time, you'll notice that your child will stop less often to decode words.
3. Take turns reading. By listening to your reading, your child will hear what good readers sound like. After you've read a part, ask your child to reread the same section. This provides a chance for him/her to read with expression.
4. Do what is best for your family. Perhaps the 15 minute reading happens before bedtime or over the weekend when there is more time. We are just asking that students log 60 reading minutes a week at home. Our goal is to make reading a daily habit and a lifelong love.
Attending a School Outside Your Attendance Area
Dates for applying to attend a school outside the usual attendance area are January 2-March 1. FCPS will post the out-of-district application online on January 2 in the section For Families and Students at www.fcps.org. Those needing assistance may call 240-236-2493 after January 2. Schools projected to be over capacity in the coming school year are closed to out-of-district students. FCPS will post the list of restricted schools online in December. For details, please see the updated Assignment and Transfer of Students Regulation 400-15:
