From Our Principal
Parents play an extremely important role in making school a positive academic experience for our Panthers. This year, students are being asked to do a minimum of three hours of self-directed learning each day at home. Your student needs to spend these hours actively engaged in homework, reading, watching educational videos, taking notes, video conferencing with study groups, attending teacher office hours, etc. So far, our data shows that many students are not adequately preparing for classes and therefore, are academically falling behind.
We need your help. Please sit down with your student and ask to see their grades in Infinite Campus and within the REAL Learning Platform. Talk through what your student is learning and ask questions. Sign up for the parent/teacher/student conferences through the link sent to your email earlier this week. Help your student set aside study time and a place with limited distractions.
To help parents, we will post student grades from the REAL platform into IC every Monday for the rest of the quarter by 9:00am. However, please continue to use the REAL Platform for the most accurate and up to date information.
We want to both motivate students to be successful academically, and we also want to help them build the habit of stress management when they face difficult challenges in the self-directed learning process. At any point, you can coach your student in the right direction. Throughout this process, we want to inspire a growth mindset by helping them reflect and problem-solve when they are facing difficulty.
You can learn more about how to view important information regarding your student's performance and progress in the video below from Assistant Principal, Karen Hamlow. Look for future "how to" videos in this newsletter throughout the year.
We are here to help and support students as they learn how to increase their self-direction and own their futures.
Mr. Burr
