Technology News
- Junior Kindergarten has continued to work on identifying, finding and typing letters and numbers using applications such as Type 2 Learn Jr. and MaxCount. They recently began to build a MaxShow presentation about the sounds of the alphabet.
- Kindergarten students have been working in MaxShow. The learned the basics of the program while creating a "favorite things" presentation. They are currently exploring some more advanced features of the application and designing a "lifecycle" presentation.
- First grade students used their creative writing skills to create comic strips with MakeBeliefsComics. They also used the mind mapping application Kidspiration to prepare them for their upcoming Solar System books.
- Second Grade Students used a variety of websites to research statistics on a National Park. They then imputed and organized their data in an excel spreadsheet to use for creating graphs and charts for their National Park Project.
- Third Grade students created a Powerpoint presentation describing the lives and accomplishments of five famous explorers.
- Fourth grade students finished designing informative trifold pamphlets with facts about the elements. They also worked through the tutorials on TinkerCad to teach them to create 3D models for printing with a 3D printer.
- Fifth grade students finished designing informative trifold pamphlets about the U.S. Bill of Rights. They also worked through the tutorials on TinkerCad to teach them to create 3D models for printing with a 3D printer.

Health/Physical Education News
Health:
JrK: This past month the students reviewed various health topics covered thus far in class. They played review games. (Dental health, five senses, fire safety, healthy food choices, good hygiene…)
K: This past month the students started a unit on Safety While Playing. They learned to recognize emergencies and ways to respond appropriately. They also learned various ways to interact safety if confronted by a stranger.
1ST: This past month the students finished a unit on being safe. The students learned about the importance of following safety rules at home, at school, in cars and buses, while walking and biking, and near water.
2nd: This past month the students finished a unit on staying well. The students learned to recognize the symptoms of illness and what to do when ill.
3rd: This past month the students finished a unit on Sleep. The students learned about the importance of relaxation and sleep. Each student calculated the amount of sleep they get each night.
4th:This past month the students finished a unit on Guarding Against Disease. The students learned about communicable and noncommunicable diseases. They learned about various ways to prevent disease. They performed an observation using flour to calculate how far a sneeze travels.
5th: This past month the students worked in small groups researching various pathogens. After researching their assigned pathogen, each group created a visual that they used to present to the class.
Physical Education:
This past month the students started a unit on speed stacking. Using speed cups the students practiced various builds to promote eye-hand coordination, ambidexterity, and bilateral proficiency.

So far in Spanish class...
* Junior Kindergarten has been learning about some means of transportation and later on they will learn some means of communication, all in Spanish.
* Kindergarten has been learning about parts of the body in Spanish and have practiced their singing skills. They will learn about weather also.
* First grade has been learning about community helpers and other jobs in Spanish. They will also learn about family members.
* Second grade students have been learning about clothing in Spanish. They will start learning about feeling and emotions in Spanish.
* Third grade students have been learning about body parts and the 5 senses in Spanish. They will also learn some adjectives to be able to describe things using their senses.
* Fourth grade students have been learning about Sports in Spanish and made a Keynote presentation. They will start learning some verbs in Spanish.
* Fifth grade students have been learning about numbers in Spanish and they will start practicing money talk and math in Spanish.

ART NEWS: Creatively Speaking!
JUNIOR KINDERGARTEN
· Students learned about April birthday artists Joan Miro
o They created a Still Life Sunflower collage
o Students created a drawing full of symbols after learning about the Spanish artist Joan Miro.
KINDERGARTEN
· Students learned the April birthday Pennsylvania Artist Edward Hicks
o Students created a drawing their own peaceable Kingdom with 6 animals and a background landscape.
o They learned about the Pennsylvania Quaker minister artist who illustrated his belief in peace thru a series of over 100 paintings.
FIRST GRADE
· Students learned about artists: Sonia Delaunay and Joan Miro.
o Mrs. Stone’s class created a group project of a 3D vase of sunflowers which is in the lobby on display.
o Mrs. Christy’s class created oil pastel and watercolor designs in the style of Spanish Artist Joan Miro.
SECOND GRADE
· Students learned about Landscape Drawings as part of an interdisciplinary lesson.
o Students chose a national park and created a Poster for that Park.
o They used the grid system to enlarge their landscape to the poster size.
o They are making their own lettering after learning about text placement.
THIRD GRADE
· Students studied Italian Artist and inventor Leonardo da Vinci
o They designed their own Robot with a specific function in 2D plans.
o Students learned about the structural engineering of assembling a large cardboard structure.
o They are designing the decorations after their Robot is spray painted.
FOURTH GRADE
· Students learned the process of weaving a bag on a cardboard loom
o Students created their own cardboard loom and learned about the warp and the weft strings.
o They designed the colors and design of the bag (drawstring or flap).
FIFTH GRADE
· Students learned about weaving an abstract fiber project.
o Students painted an abstract background of their own choice.
o They created a loom out of their cardboard painting.
o They chose a warp string and different color weft yarn
o They wove any kind of pattern that they wanted.
o Next, they will apply beads feathers and other decorative elements.

News from the Orchestra Pit of Mr. Chris Hoffman
This month we have all been working really hard to get ready for our spring musicals and concerts.
JK has been learning all their songs for their concert on May 26th at 9 AM. Students should dress nicely clothes for the concert.
Kindergarten has been getting ready for their musical, The Cat and the Rat, also on May 26th at 2 PM. Students should also dress nicely for their musical.
1st thru 5th grade are counting down the days to their spring musical Pirates! on May 19th. The students are getting their best pirate voices ready and dusting off their peg legs to learn their song and dance numbers.
