STEAM Activities
Koch School students in all grades took part in various STEAM activities during Read Across America week. It was a fun day of developing students' creativity in the classroom!
Preschool
Preschool was "Dreaming Up" today and celebrated building.
STEAM
Building Lego creations and working as a team.
Activities
Creating spice drop towers!
Kindergarten
First, they read the book Perfect Square.
STEAM
Next they were given a square of scrapbook paper and had to use the whole square in their design.
Activity
Their creativity was amazing!
First
First grade read the book “How to Catch the Tooth Fairy."
Grade
Then, the class was given specific materials they could use to make traps to catch her.
STEAM
Last, the class demonstrated their traps.
2nd
Designing their dream bedroom after reading the book and being introduced to area and perimeter with a cheez-it’s activity.
Grade
First they designed a layout.
Activity
Then they transferred it to a large sheet of graph paper to create their dream bedroom!
Third
First, students read Rosie Revere, Engineer.
Grade
Then they created catapults.
STEAM
Finally, they had a launch competition in the hallway!
4th
Fourth grade read the book "If I Built a House."
Grade
Next, they designed their house.
Activity
Last, they competed to see who could build the best house!
5th
They used Technology to Read the book The Greedy Triangle by Marilyn Burns.
Grade
Students discussed the concepts of faces, edges, and vertices for their Math. They showed their creativity by using Art to decorate the faces of the pyramid.
Activity
Different qualities of light and reflections were the Science of the project. The final building was the Engineering
