Human Papilloma Virus is a disease that is associated with sex. The virus is when normal cells in the body turn abnormal. It can affect the genital area, even the mouth and throat. The abnormal cells can cause cancer and other painful things.

How is HPV transmitted?
HPV is passed on through genital contact, most often during vaginal and anal sex. HPV may also be passed on during oral sex and genital-to-genital contact. HPV can be passed on between straight and same-sex partners—even when the infected partner has no signs or symptoms.

Your body immune system can normally fight the virus off and will be gone for good in two years without you even knowing. The abnormal cells will become normal again.
However, there are treatment options for the things that are caused by HPV like genital warts, cancer and other complications.
All boys and girls ages 11 or 12 years should get vaccinated.

who are people at higher risk for getting HPV?
People who are sexually active. People that also have many partners. A person with a low immune system are also at higher risk.
