The mission of Martin Luther King, Jr. High School is to prepare students for service, excellence, and life long learning.

Principal's Corner

Greetings King School Community,

Saturday marked the 20th anniversary of the tragic events on September 11, when our country was cowardly attacked by terrorists. I want to begin by remembering those we lost on September 11, 2001. While the saying is common that this is a day that we will never forget, there really is no other way to put it as words will never accurately reflect the feelings, we all had on this day.

Thank you to the first responders and everyone who helped one another on that tragic day. To the people still with us or gone, we will never forget you or the immense sacrifice that you made on that day and continue making in your daily.

Students in 9th and 10th grade have taken the fall academic assessment entitled Measure of Academic Performance Test (MAP) also known as NWEA MAP over the last four weeks of school.

Teachers use the data from the NWEA assessment to develop learning goals and objectives to help each student meet their academic goals. In addition, we use this data to determine what remediation, interventions, or extension activities for instruction need to occur within our classrooms.

We will be wrapping up MAP testing over the next two weeks. 9th and 10th grade Flex Academy students must come to the school to participate in the MAP Assessment. We will provide time for students to come in to be assessed on Tuesday and Thursday September 21, 23, 28, and 30 between the hours of

NEW ML King High School PTSA

We are excited to announce the re-launching of the ML King High School PTSA. I am excited to share with you the news of the establishment of the NEW Martin Luther King, Jr. High School PTSA. Our PTSA will be making its return to ML King after a five-year hiatus. I’m sure I don’t have to tell you how integral the PTSA is when it comes to forming partnerships in our scholars’ education and lending support to those helping to shape their minds. But starting this year, the MLK PTSA is devoted to bringing you innovative programming equipped with opportunities for engagement and growth for all members.

What does membership get me? Membership in the PTSA affords you a seat at the PTSA planning table, a voice at meetings, discounts at various businesses, opportunity to gain service hours, and networking with likeminded, driven community members and enthusiasts. Membership is only $10 per person, but the impact your participation will have is invaluable.

The MLK PTSA will begin membership intake on September 20, 2021 via the following link: Join the MLK PTSA or

Beginning in October, meetings will be held monthly via ZOOM. Please check your MLK Newsletter in the coming weeks for notification of our first meeting. In the interim, please contact PTSA President, Mrs. Kenni York, anytime regarding PTSA questions that you may have :

School Attendance

Remember, it is imperative that your student attends school daily to ensure they can receive quality instruction to support their academic growth. When students arrive to school or class late, it requires the teacher to stop the lesson to admit the student to class and to bring them up to speed with the rest of the class. A student’s educational experience is largely influenced by the relationship between school, parent and their teacher(s). Please ensure that you are working with us to make our Academic Learning Environment the best experience for your scholar.

Please remember to keep in contact with your student teacher(s) weekly through emails or Infinite Campus. Please check with your student to ensure that they have completed all assignments and have submitted them according to the directions that the teacher have provided.

School Climate/PBIS Activities

We will begin using PBIS or Positive Behavior Intervention Support to improve our overall school climate at ML King High School. The PBIS Model is a national model that is used to support and improve overall school climate. We will be rolling the initiative out to the staff this week and will follow –up with our students over the next couple of weeks via the Monthly Town Hall Meetings by SLC.

Our Positive Behavior Intervention Support Celebration (PBIS) will start in October. We will recognize Students of the Week/Month during our PBIS Celebrations. Please follow us on Social Media to get daily up to date information about our PBIS Initiative. The PBIS celebrations are a rewards mechanism for
