The Thrill of the Hunt
There have never been more skillful hunters than children on the search for candy-filled eggs. The group of kids that came to River Valley District Library for our annual Easter Egg Hunt were no exception. We started the Easter Egg Hunt upstairs with some crafts, then lined the kids up and headed downstairs. On the count of 3-2-1 Go, it was game time. Their senses were heightened, their minds were focused, and they had one mission - get the eggs with the best candy. This year, we implemented a cut-off of 20 eggs per kiddo, which meant the kids could afford to be picky. Most of them collected their 20 eggs within seconds, leaving time to sort through and exchange their finds. Some of them shook their eggs, using their trained ears to decipher which noises were made by gummies, chocolate, or nerds. Some smelled the eggs, some busted them open right on spot...One child hovered their hands over an egg and closed their eyes, sensing what exactly was inside. What was the coveted candy? Cookies 'n' Creme Hershey's Bar? Gummy Krabby Patties? Perhaps, it didn't matter what candy they got. Perhaps, they were just feeling the thrill of the hunt!
Some awesome quotes:
"There are so many eggs!" Thanks to The Friends of River Valley District Library, we had more than enough eggs! The Friends not only filled each egg, but they also assisted in candy selection, which was a good thing, because we had:
"Very high-quality candy!" - Quote by a seven-year-old with bunny ears on their head.
"What a well-behaved group of children!" Right?! These kids were awesome. I even enforced a candy tax, and most of them were happy to oblige...most of them.
"This was awesome!" Thanks to The Friends of River Valley District Library, our wonderful volunteers, and all who came and participated, we were able to have a truly awesome Easter Egg Hunt. Thank you!
