May Day

We will have our annual May Day celebration tomorrow, May 9th, from 10:05-11:05am on the back fields. Should it rain, we will move our celebration into the gym. All staff should be present for this whole-school event.

Our schedule will be as follows:

8:35 - 8:47am HR

8:47 - 9:07am 1st

9:09 - 9:29am 2nd

9:31 – 9:50am 3rd (5th, K and 1st snack/recess)

9:50-10:00 Return to HR – Call to fields

10:05 - 11:05am May Day Celebration on Fields

11:05-11:17 Leave field, return to HR

11:20 - 11:45am 4th (4th, 2nd and 3rd snack/recess)

11:48 - 12:13pm 5th

12:16 - 12:41pm 6th

12:45pm Dismissal

Directions from Karrin:

Seating chart layout is here. I did my best to add chairs for each class to accommodate seating for both teachers and paras (but I know you move around for classes). There's a section of extra chairs if needed.

We've got a set up/clean up crew of 5th graders who will take care of chairs for K, 1, 4 and 5th grade.

2nd and 3rd grade will bring their chairs.

There are 3 5th grade assistants to help K - 3 students throughout the celebration. They will be there to help kids make their circle formation, turn in the correct direction, passing out instruments, and in some cases, participate in the dances. Feel free to join in the dancing too!!

As a closing activity, we'll invite everyone (parents and teachers too!) to join in a rousing rendition of "One Fine Day at Toll Gate." Here's where I need to solicit your assistance to help set up for this activity. The goal is to have everyone form a bunch of circles around the field, and within the circle, each person should turn and face a partner.

Monday's PD Day

From Dan's email last week:

Please plan to join all elementary staff and district administrators in the TMS cafeteria at 2:30PM for an informational meeting, during which time we will provide an overview of the efforts underway to revitalize our reading support program for the 2016-2017 school year.

Parking may be a challenge due to paving work being done at TMS, so please consider parking in the student lot, located by the solar panels behind CHS. This will be a short presentation and since a walk from an adjacent parking lot may be necessary, no need to carry your laptop to this session.

Please plan to be in the TMS cafeteria so that we can begin promptly at 2:30PM.

*School ends at 12:45pm on an early dismissal day. Please enjoy your lunch and feel free to work on your GCN or any items for your annual/PLC time until we meet at 2:30pm PROMPTLY at TMS. :)

Peter Brown - "The Wild Robot"

Peter Brown, Hopewell Elem Alum (and TMS/CHS), has extended an invitation to our students and staff! He has written a new book - not a picture book, like his previous books, but a 300 page book for ages 8 to 12! Please publicize this to your students and families as well.

I’m emailing to invite you to a little shindig in Lambertville on the evening of Saturday, May 21. The Lambertville Public Library wants to throw a “party" for my new book, my first novel for children, The Wild Robot. (Peter's mom works for the library) They’re having it at a place called the Kalmia Club. I’ll give a presentation about my process of making the book and I’ll do a drawing demonstration and take questions. Then there’ll be tea and coffee and snacks while I sign books for whoever wants to buy one.

You’re welcome to bring friends and/or family if you know anyone else who might be interested.

Here are all the important details:

Presentation at 7pm.

Please let Chris Morgan know if you are interested and if any of your students will attend as well. They need approximate numbers for food/space.

Your Input is Needed!

You know me, already thinking ahead to the future! Before things get too incredibly crazy, please take a few moments to think about what you might want to learn more about next year during our meeting times together. This might play nicely into your PGPs that we are creating during our annual conferences.

Please click this link for the PD Survey for 2016-2017. Thank you!

Annual Reminders

When preparing for your annual, please make sure to complete your SGOs and your PGP, including your hours. We will also discuss your goals for next year's PGP, so please think of what you might want to be working on for the future. It is suggested that you look at the Technology Competencies to see if there are any areas that you need to learn more about - this can be included in your PGP.

Please review the folder link to access all annual information needed.

Check here for the schedule of annuals with me, if I am doing yours this year.
