April Henry visiting Mount Vernon MS and HS
Two years ago Tim Green visited Washington Elementary and Mount Vernon Middle School students. This was such a great experience that I started searching for another author to come to Mount Vernon. This time I wanted to find an author that was a female, wrote to students at the middle school and high school levels and also has had books on the Iowa Award lists. April Henry ended up being an author that met all of those goals.
April Henry has had books on the Iowa Teen Award list for the past three years. The Summer Book Club at the middle school have also read two of her books.
I would like to thank the Mount Vernon Foundation and PRIDE for helping to financially support this author visit. April Henry will be visiting six other middle schools while spending the entire week in Iowa. This has been a lot of planning with many other districts, but will be so exciting to have another author visit to Mount Vernon Schools.
Monday, April 23rd, 9am-3:15pm
Mount Vernon Middle School
- April Henry will be meeting with a Mystery Literature class at the high school in the morning during 2nd hour (9:10 in the high school library).
- At 1:30 Ms. Henry will be talking with a mixture of middle school/high school students about the writing process.
- April Henry will finish the day at 2:30 with a presentation of mostly middle school students and another Mystery Literature class in the district auditorium.
Students in the Mystery Literature class at the high school also had all of April Henry's books shared with them and many of the students reading and enjoying the books.
If you bought a copy of April Henry's books at the middle school book fair, you may bring it to have it signed. You may still purchase a book to bring on April 23rd and have April Henry sign it.
